Stress-free ways to improve healthJean Gottlieb,

Health Reporter(NC)—We’re regularly

fl ooded with information on the importance of be-ing slender. “Being thin or losing weight is the num-

tion Centre (NEDIC). Despite decades of new nutritional information and diet advice, Canadians today are no thinner than in previous generations. According to a recent re-port in the journal of the American Academy of Pediatrics, research con-sistently shows that only about 5% to 10% of indi-viduals who lose weight by dieting manage to keep it off for more than a year. Worse still, the report shows that dieters are 5 times more likely to de-velop an eating disorder.

“It’s time to stop fear-mongering about those extra pounds, and to value ourselves diff erently,” says Bear. According to the NEDIC website (www.nedic.ca), better health – and appearance – are often enjoyed by individuals who focus on being well nour-ished, physically active and socially engaged. Th e fol-lowing are some sugges-tions to help you get there:

• A c k n o w l e d g e

• Attend to your emotional, physical and spiritual wellbeing.

• Bring a sense of enjoyment to food prepa-ration and eating.

• Establish regular eating patterns and ex-periment with unfamiliar fruits and vegetables.

• Feel comfortable eating when hungry and refusing food when not

ber one desire of most girls and women because it is associated with being in control, desirable and suc-cessful” says Merryl Bear, director of the National Eating Disorder Informa-

and appreciate what you have achieved in life, big and small.

• Respect and value the natural diversity of human bodies, including your own.

• Be physically ac-tive for the pleasure and health benefi ts it brings.

• Engage in activi-ties that make you feel joy-ful and purposeful.

hungry, both in your homeand others’.

Th ese time-honouredways to respect and treat yourself well are a welcomechange from all the taboosand punishments associ-ated with over-focusing onweight, says Bear. It’s never too late to start living well.

Love it or lease it - benefits of buying and leasing vehiclesShopping for a

new vehicle can be as agonizing as it is exciting. Though it can be fun to find and drive a new vehicle, it can also be nerve-wracking, particularly if the vehicle has a high price tag.

As any buyer knows, there are al-ways options when it comes to finding a new car. Those op-tions are buying and leasing. Each has its distinct advantages and disadvantages, and buyers should consider the pros and cons of each be-fore making a com-mitment.Benefits of Buying

Buying a vehicle, even in the current economic climate, still has many advan-tages.

* Ownership. Own-ership is often the most discussed ben-efit when deciding to buy or lease a ve-

hicle. For those who will finance the car, once the terms of that agreement have been met, the car is now an owned asset. The same thing goes for anyone buying a pre-owned vehicle and paying for it upfront. The fact that the ve-hicle is an asset is a security blanket. In the case of unexpect-ed financial hardship, for instance, the ve-hicle can be sold, whereas a vehicle on lease cannot.

* Depreciation. While it’s true a car depreciates tremen-dously in value the moment it’s taken off the lot, that’s only half the story. Much of a vehicle’s value depreciation is in its early life. That depre-ciation slows as the car ages, especially if the car is well taken care of. The longer a driver owns the car, the lower the depre-

ciation expense will be. On the contrary, when leasing a ve-hicle, the individual is often paying the most for the high rate of early-life deprecia-tion, an expense the dealer accounts for when determining the monthly lease expense or down pay-ment if there is one.

* Insurance. Lease terms often mandate extensive insurance coverage, or what’s commonly referred to as “full coverage.” This can prove costly. However, drivers who own their vehicles (financing often re-quires extensive coverage as well) outright have more freedom to pick and choose their cover-age, which can great-ly reduce their annual insurance bill.Benefits of Leasing

As beneficial as buying can be, that’s not to say leasing

doesn’t also have its advantages.

* Commitment factor. When leas-ing a vehicle, the fi-nancial commitment is not as big as it is when buying. Many lease agreements have something simi-lar to down payments known as capital cost reduction pay-ments. These are often small and don’t affect the monthly lease payment, whereas a small down payment when buying could greatly affect the monthly payment, resulting in a higher interest rate and higher monthly commitment.

The commitment factor also extends to how well a driver likes a particular ve-hicle. Lease terms can be as short as 12 months, allowing for drivers to change cars after just a year should they discover

they don’t like the car. When financing or buying outright, opting out is sub-stantially more diffi-cult, forcing owners to either sell the car or attempt to work out a deal with the institution that made the loan.

* Monthly cost. When leasing a vehi-cle, a buyer’s month-ly payment will be

lower, and in many cases substantially so, than if that buyer were to finance. This allows for more finan-cial freedom.

* Reliability. There is typically very little risk when leasing a vehicle as to that ve-hicle’s reliability. The manufacturer’s war-ranty might not have expired yet and be-cause of mileage re-

strictions common to most leasing agree-ments, the vehicle likely has not experi-enced any significant wear and tear. When buying a car, particu-larly a used car from a private citizen, the warranty is typically expired and there’s no telling how much wear and tear the vehicle has gone through.

Before signing on the dotted line, shoppers should consider the benefits to both buying and leasing and determine which is the best fit for them.

SPRA-COUPE 7460/7660SPRA-COUPE 7460/7660In today's economic environment, farmers need the most cost effective machinery. For years and years large farmers around the world have been convinced of the principle of high speed application combined with low volume spraying. Several agricultural studies have proven that this technique works. Better chemical coverage of the crop, less chemical on the ground means tremendous improvement of spraying quality, but at the same time an enormous increase of capacity.

More capacity without making concessions to your principles. Excellent spraying results, low-ground pressure, less fuel consumption, less working hours that's how you can increase your pro ts!

Spra-Coupe 7460 and 7660 maintains its world lead in innovative design and superior performance and continues to be the leading high clearance sprayer on the market.

Useful facts about RRSP Protection(NC)—If you hold sav-

ings in a Registered Re-tirement Savings Plan (RRSP), read on…

Th e Canada Deposit Insurance Corporation (CDIC) is the federal government organization that exists to protect the savings of Canadians in the event their fi nancial institution fails or goes bankrupt. CDIC provides automatic protection on eligible deposits within your RRSP.

Get the facts on whether your RRSPs are protected:

1. CDIC insures eligible deposits held in an RRSP separately from other eli-gible deposits.

2. All eligible deposits within an RRSP will be protected up to a maxi-mum of $100,000.

3. Eligible deposits within an RRSP must be held in Canadian currency at a CDIC member insti-tution.

4. CDIC does not in-sure RRSP deposits that include investment prod-ucts, such as mutual funds, stocks, bonds, treasury bills, or term deposits that mature in more than fi ve years.

You can visit www.cdic.ca for a list of eligible deposits and to calculate your savings protection.
