1 Spatial Analysis
1.1 Short overview of the area characteristics
The Wittenberg district is located in the east of the German federal state of Saxony-Anhalt. The district is crossed by the rivers Elbe and Schwarze Elster.
The district covers an area of nearly 1,930 km 2.

The district is bordered on the north to the district Potsdam-Mittelmark in the German federal
state of Brandenburg. In the east, the district of Wittenberg is bounded by the counties
Teltow-Flaming and Elbe-Elster (also situated in the German federal state Brandenburg).
South there is the district Nordsachsen (German federal state Saxony). Western of district
Wittenberg are located the district of Anhalt-Bitterfeld and the independent city of Dessau.

The Elbe River passes through the district on a length of 52 km in a large semi-natural
wetland landscape section. In the north are, extending from east to west, the wooded hills

3.3 Public transport (road)
Line bundles and Transport companies
The public road transport in the district of Wittenberg is carried out in 5 line bundles by
following transport companies:
• Public transport cooperation Neuer Wittenberger Busverkehr (4 permit holder, 10
subcontractors) in the line bundles 1-3 with 18 regional bus lines and 5 city bus lines
• Otto Müller Omnibusbetrieb GmbH & Co KG in the line bundle 4 with 5 regional
bus lines
• Vetter GmbH in the line bundle 5 with 4 regional bus lines

The Figure 3.3. shows in the average approximately 4.4 million time-table km per year from
2009 to 2012. The percentage of timetable kilometers in the flexible operating form has been
increased in the past years to a level of about 35% from the whole public transport (road).

Quality of service in public transport (road)
The operating time for the public road transport as total supply in the district of Wittenberg
names daily the period of at least 05.00 - 23.00 o`clock. This concerns both the solid fixed
timetable in scheduled services as well as the flexible forms of transport with call buses and
call taxis.
The lines on the specially defined connection - axes of priority should provide a largely
clock face driving range and possible have to special school trips no difference in operation
between school days and school holidays. The importance of these axes justifies usually

3.4 Area in district Wittenberg, which is provided for the AMC campaign
According to the current state of knowledge, is provided to carry out the AMC campaign (in
the project Smart Move) to achieve a better utilization the call buses and call taxis in the
area Jessen, Annaburg and Prettin. This is an area in southeast of Lutherstadt Wittenberg.
