This is where students can find the daily agenda as well as any and all information about the class. Students will start here everyday, and will begin each class by completing that day’s “Review ” of the previous class. Students who are absent are required to read the blog post(s) for the day(s) they missed to determine what they need to make up, and will be responsible for catching up on their own. TreeOfEd.com is a “digital textbook” created specifically for Milwee students by Mr. Danner and Mr. Dumont, featuring text, images, videos, assignments, and rubrics. Most of our assignments will be found on this site, and “the blog” will link to them as they are assigned. Students should keep these assignments in the “Current Work section of their binders. Each unit will end with a culminating project of the student’s choice. Each student will compile a portfolio of all of the projects they’ve completed throughout the year, which will be kept in their threeprong folder. Every Monday, we will learn about two foreign countries (1st semester) or three U.S. states (2nd semester). Our goal isn’t to become experts on these locations, but rather to become familiar with names, locations, images, and key information. After learning about the new countries/states, students will take a Geography Quiz. In the first semester, students must label a map with the 7 continents, 4 oceans, AND an assortment of the countries we’ve learned so far. Similarly, in the second semester, students must label a map with an assortment of the states we’ve learned so far. Notes and quizzes will be kept in the “Geo ” section of their binders. Current events will be assigned on Monday of each week for students to research, summarize and analyze. One or more news items will be posted on mrjdumont.weebly.com, under the “News” tab, and students will choose an event to research. The following Monday, students will turn in a paragraph (68 sentences) summarizing the event, their opinion of what happened, and their opinion of how it was covered. These will be kept in the “News ” section of their binders. Class Dojo is used to track awesome things that students are doing, such as participating in class, as well as track notsoawesome things that students are doing. It is also used to keep parents informed of students’ behavior in class. Parents can monitor positive and negative points––and quickly communicate with me––on the free ClassDojo App (iPhone & Android) or on ClassDojo.com
