Fusion Tech

The floor of a food processing facility is typically exposed to all sorts of food byproducts, including fats, hot oils, blood, sugar solutions, and natural food acids. While these substances can themselves injure employees, they also increase the risk of accidents associated with wet or slick flooring and stairs.

Fusion Tech offers a spray-application process that results in extreme surface hardness and bond strength that is ideal for food and beverage applications. Our anti-slip treatment is chemical and corrosion resistant, and durable for decades.

Food Processing: Injury ProneAccording to the California Department of Labor Statistics and Research, workers in food-processing

plants have a higher likelihood of being hurt on the job than workers in many other industries.1

Falling into InjuriesOSHA estimates that there are roughly 24,882 injuries and as many as 36 fatalities per year due to falls

from staircases and ladders. Nearly half of these injuries are serious enough to require time off the job -11,570 lost workday injuries and 13,312 non-lost workday injuries occur annually due to falls from

staircases and ladders.1 These numbers do not include slips and falls from floors or overhead platforms.

Accident Prone AreasThe most common risk areas for employee injuries due to falls include:

• Flooring• Handrails• Ladder Rungs• Stair Treads

• Stair Noses• Catwalks• Mezzanines• Drain Covers

When exposed to food byproducts, these areas of a food processing plant becomedangerously slick and raise the risk of employee injuries.

The High Cost of InjuryEmployee injuries are costly. A single injury can easily cost tens, if not hundreds,

of thousands of dollars due to:

• Accident investigations• OSHA logs• Employee downtime• Employee turnover

• Employee retraining• Insurance premium increases• Medical services• Hiring a temporary replacement worker

This list doesn't take into account the drop in production due to discomfort while workingand lowered employee morale - costs that may be impossible to calculate.

Don’t Trip! While there is no way to completely eliminate injuries in your plant, non-slip products and coatings

go a long way to reduce the risk of slipping and falling, and create a saferwork environment for your employees.
