Kickoff off is set for 1 p.m. ET. The contest will be broadcast nation- ally by FOX-TV with Kenny Albert calling the play-by-play, Daryl Johnston adding the analysis and Tony Siragusa reporting from the sidelines. The game can also be heard on the Redskins Radio Network with Larry Michael on the play-by-play, former Red- skins greats and Pro Football Hall of Fame members Sam Huff and Sonny Jurgensen adding color and Doc Walker reporting from the sideline. The Redskins (7-6), led by Jim Zorn, look to bounce back not only from a 24- 10 loss last week to the Ravens, but from a late-season skid that has seen them drop four of their last five. The Bengals, meanwhile, are hopeful that the Redskins will become their sec- ond win of the season, after they have played all three of their previous NFC East opponents closely. In fact, the Bengals tied Philadelphia four weeks ago and lost to the Giants in overtime in Week Three. Cincinnati also forced Dallas to hold on for a 31-22 win after the Bengals missed a two-point con- version attempt to tie the game at 24 in the fourth quarter, before the Cowboys scored the game’s final touchdown with less than two minutes remaining. Washington started the season running the ball well, with Clinton Portis racking up 944 yards through the first eight games of the season and vaulting into the conversation for league MVP. In the five games since, he has been nagged by in- juries and been held to less than 70 yards in four of them against some of the league’s toughest rush defenses. Following the Baltimore game, Portis promised to return to Wednesday prac- tice for the first time in weeks, and a re- turn to health, combined with a matchup against the 29th-ranked Bengals rush de- fense, offers Portis a chance to recover his early-season form. Despite the team's record over the last four games, the Washington defense has seen a rapid increase in takeaways. Since the acquisition of cornerback DeAngelo Hall on Nov. 8, the Redskins have six in- terceptions and a fumble recovery, all created by members of the secondary, compared to only two in the five games prior. This will be Washington's seventh road game of 2008, but ironically, the Redskins have enjoyed more success as the visit- ing team, showing a 4-2 record away from FedExField, compared to a 3-4 home record. With the NFC Playoff race tightening, the Redskins have left themselves little room for error in the season’s final three weeks. Washington found itself in similar circumstances in both 2005 and 2007 and won its final three contests to qualify for the playoffs. This will be the eighth regular season meeting between the clubs and only the second since 1991. The Redskins own a 4- 3 advantage, although the Bengals came to FedExField and won the last meeting in 2004. WASHINGTON REDSKINS GAME 14 AT CINCINNATI BENGALS

On February 10, 2008, Redskins Owner Daniel M. Snyderwelcomed Jim Zorn as the franchise’s 27th head coach, ush-ering in a new chapter in Redskins history.

Zorn, an NFL quarterback from 1976-87 and an NFL assis-tant coach the last 11 years, brings an approach that he de-scribes as “constant andconsistent” in terms of how hemanages coaches and players.

“My hope is to hold the tradi-tions and the fight that the Red-skins have always had in highregard,” Zorn said. “I am goingto try in my best effort to con-tinue that tradition in my tenurehere as the head footballcoach.”

Zorn reached the top of hisprofession in an exciting coupleof weeks.

Zorn was originally hired as theRedskins’ offensive coordinatoron January 26, 2008. He im-pressed Snyder and ExecutiveVice President of Football Oper-ations Vinny Cerrato so muchthat, two weeks later, they decided to offer him the headcoaching job. He succeeds Hall of Fame coach Joe Gibbs.

“We wanted a head coach that had great character, in-tegrity, leadership skills, smarts, drive, energy and pas-sion,” said Snyder. “In Coach Zorn, we ended up with aperson that has all of those attributes, plus much, muchmore.”

Zorn joined the Redskins from the Seattle Seahawkswhere he spent the last seven seasons (2001-07) as quarter-backs coach. The Seahawks won four consecutive divisiontitles, made five straight playoff appearances and posted afranchise-best 13-3 record and first-ever Super Bowl ap-pearance in 2005.

During his time in Seattle, Zorn worked with SeahawksHead Coach Mike Holmgren and Offensive Coordinator GilHaskell in implementing the team’s offense while also con-tinuing in the development of the team’s quarterbacks.

Zorn tutored QB Matt Hasselbeck who set a franchiserecord with 3,841 passing yards in 2003. Hasselbeck has be-come the franchise’s most-efficient passer (85.1 rating)while joining Zorn as the only franchise quarterback to passfor 3,000-plus yards in three consecutive seasons.

In 2007, Hasselbeck set Seattle single-season marks forattempts (562), completions (352) and yards (3,966). Healso threw for a career-high 28 touchdowns en route to histhird Pro Bowl selection.

In 2006, Hasselbeck started just 12 games after sufferinga knee injury in the middle of the season and finished theyear with a fractured finger on his left hand. In the interim,Zorn helped with the development of Seneca Wallace, whocompleted 58% of his passes, tossed eight touchdowns, posted a 76.2 passer rating and a 2-2 record in the most ex-tensive playing time of his four-year career.

In 2005, Zorn guided Hasselbeck to his second Pro Bowlappearance and the NFC’s top-rated passer (4th NFL) witha 98.2 rating en route to Super Bowl XL. Hasselbeck directed

the NFL’s second-ranked offense to a franchise-record 11consecutive wins and in his four December games he postedthe fourth-best passer rating in NFL history (135.5), includ-ing 10 touchdowns to one interception, and completed 76%of his passes.

Zorn’s 2002 campaign had TrentDilfer open the season as thestarter and concluded with Hassel-beck under center. Seattle’s pass-ing attack ranked third in the NFLaveraging 254.9-yards a game.Hasselbeck finished the seasonranked first in the NFC with a 63.7completion percentage and secondin the NFC with a 87.8 passer rat-ing. Hasselbeck passed for morethan 300 yards four times, includ-ing a franchise-record 449 in theseason finale at San Diego. Has-selbeck joined Zorn as the onlySeahawks quarterbacks to pass forat least 300 yards in back to backgames. Zorn accomplished thefeat in 1979 and 1981.

Zorn’s 2001 quarterback crop in-cluded Holmgren’s hand-picked starter Hasselbeck, SuperBowl XXXV quarterback Dilfer and 2000 part-time starterBrock Huard. Zorn groomed Hasselbeck and helped thefirst-year starter to become the AFC’s fifth-rated passer onthird-down with a rating of 80.6.

Zorn joined the Seahawks as quarterbacks coach afterserving in the same capacity with the Detroit Lions (1998-00). He was instrumental in the development of rookiequarterback Charlie Batch in 1998. Batch’s 88.3 passer rat-ing that season ranks as the fourth-highest rookie mark inNFL history. Zorn broke into the NFL coaching ranks as anoffensive assistant for the Seahawks in 1997.

Zorn spent eight seasons in the collegiate ranks before hispro debut. He spent two seasons (1995-96) as quarterbackscoach at the University of Minnesota and three seasons(1992-94) as the offensive coordinator at Utah State. Hisfirst collegiate coaching job was as an offensiveassistant/quarterbacks coach at Boise State from 1989-91.

His playing career began in the Seahawks’ inaugural 1976season, starting all 14 games at quarterback. He went onto play nine seasons for the Seahawks. After departing Seat-tle, he finished his playing career with the Green Bay Pack-ers (1985), the Canadian Football League’s Winnipeg BlueBombers (1986) and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1987).Along with Jacksonville’s Jack Del Rio, Zorn had the longestNFL playing career (11 years) among the league’s 32 headcoaches.

Zorn is one of only eight players inducted to the Sea-hawks’ Ring of Honor. He was named NFC Offensive Rookieof the Year (1976) and ranks second in the Seahawks’ recordbook behind Dave Krieg in yards (20,122), completions(1,593), attempts (2,992), and touchdowns (107). His threeconsecutive 3,000-yard seasons were tops in team history, since broken by Hasselbeck in 2005, and he was the firstSeattle quarterback to record back-to-back 300-plus yardgames–a feat he accomplished twice.

FIRST-YEAR REDSKINS COACHES

With a 7-6 start, Jim Zorn is hoping to lead the Red-skins to their third playoff berth in four years. He isalso looking to become the sixth Redskins head coachto amass a winning record in his first year at thehelm, as just five of his 26 predecessors have accom-plished this feat, not including Dick Todd, who was 5-4in taking over three games into the 1951 season.

Twelve first-year head coaches suffered losing cam-paigns, including Joe Gibbs in his return in 2004. Addi-tionally, Herman Ball coached the final five games in1949 and finished 1-4, while Terry Robiskie finished 1-2 while coaching the last three games of 2000. Sevenfirst-year head coaches ended their seasons with a.500 record.

BALANCED ATTACKThe Redskins have been efficient on the offensive

and defensive sides of the ball, ranking 16th andfifth in the league, respectively. Washington is cur-rently one of nine NFL teams, along with Arizona,Carolina, Dallas, Miami, New England, the New YorkGiants, Philadelphia, and Tampa Bay to place in thetop half of the league in total offense and total de-fense. The Redskins net yards per game differentialof 49.7 is 10th in the league.

Washington has outgained eight of its 13 oppo-nents, with the exceptions being a season-openingloss to the Giants, and defeats to the Steelers, Cow-boys, Giants and Ravens in weeks nine, 11, 13 and14.

BALL SECURITYAfter becoming the first team in NFL history to

play its first five games without an offensiveturnover, the Redskins have registered eight fumbleslost and six interceptions in the last eight contests.

Still, the Redskins have only 15 turnovers on theseason, which is tied with the Falcons and Titans forthe third-fewest in the NFL behind the Dolphins (10)and Giants (11). Washington’s six interceptions aretied for the fewest in the league with Miami.

Prior to throwing two interceptions in week nineagainst Pittsburgh, the Redskins had not thrown aninterception in 12 straight contests, dating back tolast season, which is an NFL record. Likewise, theRedskins’ streak of 379 pass attempts without an in-terception, which also dated back to last season, isan NFL record. The previous mark of 281 was set bythe Oakland Raiders in 2001.

Players who threw a pass during this streak are:Jason Campbell – 271Todd Collins – 105Antwaan Randle El – 2Clinton Portis – 1

Campbell’s 271 pass attempts without an inter-ception is a franchise record and the fifth-longeststreak in NFL history.

REDSKINS ARE POSSESSIVEOn the season, the Redskins hold a 31:33-28:27

time of possession advantage over their opponents. This margin ranks seventh in the NFL and fourth inthe NFC behind the Giants, Buccaneers and Falcons.

The Redskins are 6-1 when they have the balllonger than their opponents and 1-5 when they donot.

During a four-game winning streak from weekstwo-five, Washington held the ball for a combined40:26 longer than its opponents. In similar fashion,Washington held a 35:45-24:15 advantage in a win atDetroit in week eight and a 38:27-21:33 edge in a

week 12 victory at Seattle. DEFENSE SUCCEEDING AGAINST LEAGUE’S BESTIn their 13 games this season, the Redskins have

played seven games against the NFL’s top nine offen-sive units. The Washington defense, ranked secondin the NFC and fifth in the NFL, has held 11 of its 13opponents below their current season average.

The unit has held 10 of its 13 opponents to 200 orless passing yards, including New Orleans, Arizonaand Philadelphia, which are ranked first, second andfifth in the league, respectively, in passing yards.

Washington is ranked tied for sixth in the NFL inpoints allowed per game (18.9), although the Red-skins’ four return touchdowns allowed are tied forseventh-most in the NFL. Two of those returns camevia the punt, while two were from fumbles. The de-fense itself has allowed only 218 points in the 13games, or 16.8 points per contest. The Redskins andSteelers are the only teams in the league that haveyet to give up 25 points in a game.

Additionally, Washington’s defense has only al-lowed 59 points in the fourth quarter this season, anaverage of 4.5 a game, the third-lowest total in theNFL behind Baltimore and Tennessee.

It has also forced opposing offenses into three-and-out situations on 45 of 141 possessions, 31.9percent of the time, which is the second-best markin the NFL behind Baltimore.

Prior to a game against Dallas in Week 11, the Red-skins defense held each of its previous five oppo-nents to less than 275 yards of total offense, thefirst time it has done this since games 9-13 of 1989.It is also the longest such streak in the NFL this sea-son, topping Baltimore’s run of four games in a rowholding opponents under 275 yards in its first fourcontests.

THE BEASTLY EASTThe four members of the NFC East have combined

for a 33-18-1 record. Their cumulative record is thesecond-best among the NFL’s eight divisions, behindthe NFC South, and includes a mark of 25-10-1 out-side the division. Additionally, the NFC East and NFCSouth are the only divisions to have all four of theirteams with a winning record.

SMITH’S SWITCHWashington’s kickoff units, led by special teams

coach Danny Smith, have been among the league’stop groups in 2008. The Redskins kickoff team hasallowed opponents an average starting field positionof the 25.4-yard line, the seventh-best mark in theleague.

The Redskins kickoff return team has averaged astarting field position of the 27.7-yard line, thesixth-best figure in the NFC.

RUNNETH OVERWashington’s 133.5 rushing yards per game ranks

sixth in the NFL behind the New York Giants, Atlanta,Tennessee, Baltimore and Minnesota. Running backClinton Portis is third in the league with 1,260 rush-ing yards, trailing only the Vikings’ Adrian Petersonand the Falcons’ Michael Turner.

Portis has found plenty of running room behindone of the NFL’s best offensive lines, consisting ofleft tackle Chris Samuels, left guard Pete Kendall, center Casey Rabach, right guard Randy Thomasand right tackle Jon Jansen. Each player in thegroup, which Jim Zorn has referred to as the “SaltyDogs,” has at least eight seasons of NFL experience.Stephon Heyer has also started three games at righttackle and one at left tackle.

The excellent lead blocking of fullback Mike Sell-ers has provided further running space.

Since Jansen was inserted into the starting lineupin week four against Dallas, Washington has rushedfor 1,366 yards, an average of 136.6 yards per game, which is the sixth-best mark in the league during thistime.

The unit gets stronger as the game goes on as theRedskins’ 474 rushing yards in the fourth-quarter arethe fifth-most in the league this season. Their 27fourth-quarter rushing first downs are tied for fourthin the league.

Portis has been a major factor in closing games forWashington this season as his 21 fourth-quarter rush-ing first downs is a league high, six more than anyother player.

On the other side of the ledger, the Redskins rushdefense ranks 10th in the league. In nine of its 13games this season, the Washington defense hasplayed against a starting running back who has beento the Pro Bowl. In every one of those contests theunit held the Pro Bowler to less than 100 yards.

In fact, from weeks four to 11, the Redskins facedPro Bowl running backs Marion Barber (twice), BrianWestbrook, Steven Jackson, Jamal Lewis, Rudi John-son and Willie Parker. The six combined for just 430rushing yards (61.4 ypg) and a 3.77-yards per carryaverage on 114 attempts.

Two weeks ago against the Giants, who possess theleague’s No. 1 rushing attack, Washington held NewYork to 108 yards on 35 attempts, a 3.1-yards percarry average. Last week against Baltimore, whichranks fourth in the league, the Redskins held theRavens to 3.8 yards per carry.

THE WORKHORSERedskins running back Clinton Portis is third in the

NFL with 1,461 yards from scrimmage, 1,260 rushingyards and 62 rushing first downs. He is fourth in car-ries with 266 and leads the league with 72 total firstdowns. His 21 fourth-quarter rushing first downs arealso a league best, while his 31 rushes of 10 yards ormore is the third-most behind Atlanta’s MichaelTurner and Minnesota’s Adrian Peterson.

Portis has two of the top 15, three of the top 17and six of the top 46 single-game rushing totals in

the NFL this season. He has topped the 100-yardrushing mark six times and Washington is 5-1 in thosegames.

He rushed for at least 120 yards in five straightcontests from weeks 4-8 and in doing so became thesecond player in NFL history to accomplish this feattwice in his career. Portis also did it in the final fourgames of 2003 and the 2004 season opener. O.J.Simpson rushed for at least 120 yards in five straightgames in both 1973 and 1975.

LITTLE MAN MAKING BIG PLAYSThe 5-foot-10 Santana Moss has been perhaps the

Redskins biggest playmaker thus far in 2008. His 876receiving yards are the 15th-best in the NFL. Moss’three pass receptions of 50 yards or longer are tiedfor the fifth-most in the league.

Additionally, Moss has returned three punts on theyear, the second of which he took 80 yards for atouchdown against Detroit in week nine.

AIR AND GROUND DELIVERYWith Jason Campbell ranking 14th in passer rat-

ing, Clinton Portis ranking third in rushing yards andSantana Moss ranking 15th in receiving yards, theRedskins are one of only four teams in the NFL, alongwith Green Bay, Houston and Atlanta, with a top-14passer, rusher and receiver.

COOLEY CONTINUES STREAKWashington tight end Chris Cooley has caught a

pass in 69 straight regular season contests, datingback to week nine of 2004. A Pro Bowl selection in2007, Cooley is second in among NFL tight ends with67 catches, trailing only Kansas City’s Tony Gonza-lez’s 78. Cooley’s 713 receiving yards are thirdamong NFL tight ends behind Gonzalez (879) and Dal-las’ Jason Witten (771). Cooley’s 67 catches placehim tied 10th in the NFL and tied for fourth in theNFC.

SPREADING THE WEALTHWith Chris Cooley (10th) and Santana Moss

(20th), the Redskins are one of five teams to havetwo of the top-20 pass catchers in the NFL.

LONDON BRIDGING GAPS DURABLYLondon Fletcher has started 132 consecutive

games, the sixth-longest streak among active play-ers. This season, the Redskins’ middle linebacker isfourth in the NFL and second in the NFC with 112tackles (according to NFL GSIS). It is the 10thstraight season in which Fletcher has reached thecentury mark in tackles.

A CRISP START FOR CHRIS HORTONRookie safety Chris Horton has made a quick im-

pact just 12 games into his NFL career. Horton is tiedfor seventh in the NFC with three interceptions, which is also tied for the league-most among rookieswith Tampa Bay’s Aqib Talib.

Horton was named the NFC Defensive Player of

the Week following a week two win over New Or-leans when he registered two interceptions and afumble recovery in his first NFL start. He was alsonamed NFL Defensive Rookie of the Month for Sep-tember.

In week six, against St. Louis, Horton was perhapsWashington’s best defensive player as he led theteam with 12 tackles, including three for loss andmany more near the line of scrimmage, and a forcedfumble. He followed that up the next week againstCleveland with nine tackles and a pass defensed. Two weeks ago, against the Giants, Horton collected11 tackles.

Despite missing a contest against Detroit with anankle injury, Horton is third on the team with 70tackles and has registered three interceptions, sevenpasses defensed, one fumble recovery, one forcedfumble and six special-teams tackles. He leads theteam with five tackles for loss.

ACceLerated RECOVERYThird-year linebacker Rocky McIntosh is second

on the club with 96 tackles and tied for third withtwo sacks. He has also registered two forced fum-bles, which is tied for 12th in the NFC, one intercep-tion and seven passes defensed. The two fumbleswere forced in the first quarter of Washington victo-ries over New Orleans and Arizona and resulted infield goals that extended Redskins leads.

Cornerback Carlos Rogers has a club-high 29passes defensed, including an interception. Accord-ing to NFL GSIS, Rogers is tied for first in the NFL inpasses defensed.

Both McIntosh and Rogers are returning from tornanterior cruciate ligaments injuries that ended their2007 seasons and are major reasons for the Redskins’defensive success in 2008.

Against Arizona, Rogers recovered an EdgerrinJames fumble caused by McIntosh, which set up aShaun Suisham field goal. In the second half, Rogersintercepted a Kurt Warner pass and returned it 42yards to the Arizona 15-yard line to set up the Red-skins’ game-winning touchdown.

In week 11 against Dallas, the duo reversed roles. With the Cowboys driving, at the Redskins’ 27-yardline, quarterback Tony Romo threw a pass into thechest of wide receiver Terrell Owens, but the ball

was knocked in the air as a result of a hit by Rogers, and intercepted by McIntosh.

Rogers has been the leader of Washington’s resur-gent pass defense which has steadily climbed thecharts to a No. 7 ranking in the league. The unit hasheld 10 of its 13 opponents to 200 or less yards pass-ing, including New Orleans, Arizona and Philadel-phia, which are ranked first, second and fifth in theleague, respectively, in passing yards.

In the Redskins’ fourth through 10th games, withfellow cornerback Shawn Springs battling a calf in-jury, Rogers was charged with checking seven-timePro Bowl wide receiver Torry Holt, dynamic rookieDeSean Jackson - 10th in the NFC with 775 receivingyards - Browns Pro Bowl wide receiver Braylon Ed-wards, the Lions’ Calvin Johnson - fifth in the NFLwith 971 receiving yards - four-time Pro Bowler HinesWard and six-time Pro Bowler Terrell Owens

Combined against Rogers and the Redskins, the sixaccounted for 22 catches for 223 yards and one re-ceiving touchdown or an average of 3.7 catches for37.2 yards a game.

In fact, over an eight-game span from weeks 3-11Rogers, Springs and the Redskins defense limitedWard, Johnson, Holt, Jackson, Edwards, Owens(twice) and Anquan Boldin to a total of 32 catchesfor 319 yards, for an average of four catches for 39.9yards.

Three weeks ago against Seattle, the Redskins sec-ondary, consisting of a healthy Springs, Rogers,DeAngelo Hall, Fred Smoot, LaRon Landry and ChrisHorton, limited the Seahawks to 89 net passing yardsand came up with two interceptions (Springs,Landry).

KID IN THE HALLThe Redskins acquired cornerback DeAngelo Hall

on Nov. 8 and he has immediately paid dividends, collecting two interceptions and a fumble recoveryin his first four games with the team. His first camein his Redskins debut, when he picked off Dallas’Tony Romo, and his second came last week againstEli Manning and the Giants.

Hall is tied for second in the NFL with five inter-ceptions, trailing only Pittsburgh’s Troy Polamalu, who has seven. He is also tied for sixth with 19passes defensed.

Redskins Lose 17-10BY GARY FITZGERALD

In a game played on Nov. 14, 2004, Patrick Ramseywas back at the helm of the Redskins' offense andthe third-year quarterback provided a late spark in acomeback from a 17-0 deficit to the Cincinnati Ben-gals. But it wasn't enough.

The Redskins lost 17-10 to the Bengals anddropped to 3-6 on the season.

Head coach Joe Gibbs made the switch from MarkBrunell to Ramsey midway through the second quar-ter. Brunell was 1-of-8 for six yards on the Redskins'first four offensive drives of the game.

"I went over to talk to Mark and I think he under-stood," Gibbs said after the game. "It was one ofthose things where it was my decision and I felt likewe need to make it at that point to give Patrick ashot."

Said Brunell: "It's tough—I've never had to face thisbefore. I was a little bit surprised by the move, butCoach Gibbs has been doing this a long time. Whenhe makes the call, then that's the way it's going tobe."

Ramsey struggled early— he was sacked four timesand intercepted once in the second half— but stillmanaged to guide the Redskins' offense to 10 pointslate in the fourth quarter.

He connected with H-back Chris Cooley for a 9-yard touchdown pass with 2:10 left in the game. TheRedskins' defense stuffed the Bengals on the nextdrive and the offense had one last chance to tie thegame. But Ramsey's deep pass down the left sidelinewas intercepted by Kim Herring, ending the game.

Ramsey finished the game 18-of-37 for 210 yardswith one touchdown and two interceptions.

"We put him in a tough situation," Gibbs said."You're behind and not playing well, so I think youput pressure on yourself. Obviously he threw a fewpoor passes in there— when you're trying to makesomething happen, that's what happens. But I alsofelt like he made some real good plays. He had realpoise."

Added Ramsey: "I think my performance was aver-age. There are some plays that I missed and thingsthat I would have liked to have done. I think early Ifelt rusty. I got loose in the second half and I felt alittle better out there."

The Redskins' defense got the game off to a strongstart. On the first play, Sean Taylor intercepted adeep pass from Carson Palmer to Chad Johnson alongthe right sideline. Taylor leaped up high in the airand caught the ball falling backward.

But the Redskins' offense was unable to gain anymomentum. On the offense's second possession,Brunell was intercepted by linebacker Brian Sim-mons. The turnover helped set up Cincinnati's firsttouchdown, a 1-yard run by running back Rudi John-son.

On the Redskins' next series, Brunell and ClintonPortis led the offense downfield to the Bengals' 36-yard line. The drive stalled and Gibbs decided to gofor it on fourth down. Brunell's pass to Coles fell in-complete and Cincinnati took over.

The Bengals promptly drove downfield on a 13-play, 63-yard drive, capped by a 1-yard touchdownpass from Palmer to tight end Tony Stewart.

Bengals' kicker Shayne Graham added a 41-yardfield goal to push the lead to 17-0 at halftime.

The Redskins' best opportunity in the first halfmay have been in the final minutes when cornerbackWalt Harris intercepted a pass by Bengals' quarter-back Carson Palmer and returned it 31 yards to theBengals' 48-yard line.

Ramsey quickly completed a 19-yard pass over themiddle to Laveranues Coles, putting the Redskins infield goal range. Ramsey was sacked for a 7-yard losson the next play and the drive stalled shortly there-after.

Cincinnati's 17-0 lead held up until the 5-minutemark of the fourth quarter when Ola Kimrin con-nected on a 33-yard field goal.

But the deficit was too much for Ramsey and theRedskins to overcome.

LONDON CALLING

Redskins linebacker London Fletcher earned the nick-name “Bam Bam” as a child because of his fondness forthe Flintstones cartoon and his propensity to ransack hishome. In like manner, Fletcher has terrorized opponentsover the last 11 seasons as one of the NFL’s most consis-tent and productive defensive players. Fletcher has con-tinued that level of play this season as leads theRedskins and is ninth in the NFL in tackles. Also, Fletcherhas now opened 132 straight league contests, a figurewhich ranks sixth among active players.

Last season, his first in the nation’s capital, the 5-foot-10, 245-pound Fletcher was named a first-alternateto the Pro Bowl after starting all 17 of the team’s gamesand leading the Redskins with 164 tackles.

Fletcher anchored the Rams’ defense from his middlelinebacker spot in 1999, leading the team in tackles with138. While St. Louis’ offense received much of the atten-tion on the team’s way to winning Super Bowl XXXIV, thedefense ranked sixth in the league overall and firstagainst the run. Fletcher is one of three current Redskinsplayers to have been a part of a Super Bowl winner.

Fletcher enjoyed four seasons in St. Louis, leading theRams in tackles from 1999-2001, before joining Buffalofrom 2002-06. He led the Bills in tackles all five seasonsand continued that streak last year in Washington.

With 106 tackles, this season is the 10th straight inwhich Fletcher has recorded at least 100 tackles, datingback to 1999 when he was in his second season with theSt. Louis Rams. That streak is topped only by TampaBay’s Derrick Brooks and Kansas City’s Donnie Edwards, who have reached the plateau in 12 consecutive cam-paigns.

Among active players Fletcher ranks fifth with 1,668career tackles behind Derrick Brooks, Ray Lewis, ZachThomas and Junior Seau. In fact, since the start of thisdecade, no player has amassed more tackles thanFletcher.

As a rookie in 2007, LaRon Landry recorded 97 tackles,1.5 sacks and one fumble recovery en route to beingnamed to the NFL All-Rookie Defensive Team. He becamethe first Redskins rookie defensive player to start all 16regular season games since Champ Bailey did so in 1999and concluded his first National Football League cam-paign with two interceptions in the playoff contest atSeattle last January.

Recognized as one of the rising stars in the NationalFootball League, Landry compiled seven tackles, one passdefensed and a half-sack in the regular season openeragainst the New York Giants. His performance promptedPro Football Hall of Fame coach John Madden, who wasbroadcasting the game for NBC in front of a nationally-televised audience, to laud the Redskins’ top pick (sixthoverall) in the 2007 NFL Draft:

“This guy is going to be a superstar in this league…andbefore it is all over he is going to be a very specialplayer.”

In the Redskins’ home opener in week two, Landryfaced his childhood team – the New Orleans Saints andled the Redskins to a 29-24 win with four tackles and twopasses defensed, including a touchdown-saving deflectionof a Drew Brees attempt to Devery Henderson in thefourth quarter.

Landry, whose brother Dawan is a safety for the Balti-more Ravens, followed that up with seven tackles and apass defensed in the Redskins’ week three win over theArizona Cardinals.

In week six against St. Louis, Landry recorded fourtackles, three passes defensed and a fumble recovery. Hefollowed that against Cleveland with nine tackles and apass defensed and, in week eight against Detroit, Landryregistered two tackles, a forced fumble and a pass de-fensed. In week 12, against Seattle, Landry recordedfour tackles, including one for a loss, and registered twopasses defensed, including an interception that he re-turned 13 yards to set up a Redskins touchdown.

Last week against Baltimore, Landry was responsiblefor two second-half turnovers as he intercepted a JoeFlacco pass late in the third quarter and then forced aWillis McGahee fumble in the fourth quarter, which wasrecovered by teammate DeAngelo Hall. The turnovers ledto all 10 of Washington’s points on the night.

Landry’s 61 tackles are fourth on the team, while his11 passes defensed are second. He has also registeredtwo interceptions, two forced fumbles, a fumble recov-ery and a half-sack.

Since Redskins left tackle Chris Samuels entered theleague in 2000, the Alabama product has embedded him-self as the team’s franchise left tackle. The No. 3 overallpick in the 2000 NFL Draft has proven to be a consistentand durable anchor of the Redskins’ offensive line.Samuels has started all but one game since the beginningof the 2004 season and has missed only five contests inhis eight-year career. Since he joined the Redskins’ offen-sive line in 2000, the unit’s 302 sacks allowed is thefourth-fewest total in the NFC, behind Green Bay (211),the New York Giants (280) and New Orleans (293). The 6-foot-5, 317-pound Samuels made his fifth trip to the ProBowl following the 2007 season, his third straight selec-tion. That total ranks third among current NFL tackles be-hind only 11-year veterans Walter Jones and OrlandoPace, who have both gone eight and seven times, respec-tively.

Playing in his ninth season, Samuels is also already oneof the most decorated players in Redskins annals. Sincethe AFC-NFC Pro Bowl format was created, coincidingwith the merger in 1970, Samuels’ five Pro Bowl berthsare tied for the third-most in franchise history, behindonly Darrell Green and Ken Houston, who each had sevenselections (Charley Taylor was selected to four NFL All-Star Games and three Pro Bowls and Len Hauss was se-lected to three NFL All-Star Games and three Pro Bowls).

TAYLOR MADE ADDITION

The Redskins traded with the Miami Dolphins for six-time Pro Bowl linebacker/defensive end Jason Taylor onJuly 20, 2008, bringing one of the NFL’s most feared de-fenders to Washington. Taylor joins Andre Carter to formone of the most dangerous pass-rushing tandems in theleague. Taylor and Carter are one of two sets of currentNFL teammates who both registered double-digit sack to-tals in 2007. Dallas’ DeMarcus Ware and Greg Ellis is theother.

Before missing a game at the Dallas Cowboys on Sept.28, following a necessary medical procedure on his leftcalf to remove blood and avoid possible nerve damage onSept. 22, Taylor had opened 133 consecutive games, dat-ing back to 1999, which was the seventh-longest streakamong active players.

The 6-foot-6, 245-pound Taylor has been one of the Na-tional Football League’s premier defensive players for the

past 11+ seasons. The Pittsburgh native has been selectedto six Pro Bowls (2000, 2002, 2004-07), including the lastfour in a row. He recorded his first sack as a Redskin onSept. 14 against the Saints, the 118th of his career, whichis the most among all active NFL players and ranks 14thall-time in NFL history.

Additionally, Taylor’s 101.5 sacks this decade are aleague high, 12.5 more than Michael Strahan’s 89, and22.5 more than any other active player (Leonard Littleand John Abraham, 80). Taylor also has demonstrated apropensity for getting his hands on the football as his 41forced fumbles are six more than any other current NFLplayer (Dwight Freeney 35) and the most since the statis-tic began being tracked in 1991. He has also recovered 26fumbles, five of which he returned for touchdowns, tiedfor the most in NFL history, while his eight career touch-downs are the most by an NFL defensive lineman since the1970 merger.

Originally a third-round draft choice out of the Univer-sity of Akron in 1997, Taylor was named the 2006 Associ-ated Press NFL Defensive Player of the Year and the 2007Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year.

In 2007, Taylor recorded 11 sacks, his sixth season withdouble-digit sacks. He also logged four forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and an interception, which he re-turned 36 yards for a touchdown. In 2006, when Taylorwas recognized as the league’s best defender, he notched62 tackles, 13.5 sacks, 11 passes defensed, 10 forced fum-bles, two fumble recoveries and two interceptions, bothof which he returned for touchdowns.

WASHINGTON REDSKINS GAME 14 AT CINCINNATI BENGALS15

Washington Redskins quarterback Jason Campbell,a native of Taylorsville, Miss., is continuing his pro-gression under Head Coach Jim Zorn, while learningthe nuances of the West Coast Offense.

Overall for the season, Campbell has completed262-of-415 pass attempts (63.1%) for 2,778 yards, with 11 touchdowns and six interceptions, for apasser rating of 85.4.

Campbell ranks second in the NFL in interceptionpercentage (1.4) and is the 14th-rated passer in theleague. He ranks 10th in attempts, 10th in comple-tions, 12th in completion percentage and 13th inyards.

In the Redskins’ game against Pittsburgh on Nov.3, Campbell threw his first interception of the sea-son after going 271 straight pass attempts withoutone, dating back to last year. It was a franchiserecord, and the fifth-longest streak in NFL history.

The true test of a quarterback comes in thefourth quarter, and this has been when Campbellhas been at his best. He ranks ninth in the NFL infourth quarter passing efficiency as he has com-pleted 72-of-112 passes (64.3%) for 846 yards andfour touchdowns and two interceptions for a passerrating of 91.6. In the final three weeks of Septem-ber, Campbell posted quarterback ratings of 108.4,112.2, and 104.1, the first time a Redskins quarter-back has had three-straight games with a passer rat-ing higher than 100.0 since Mark Rypien did it ingames 13-15 in 1991.

He posted a career-high 127.4 passer rating in aweek eight victory at Detroit. Campbell completed23-of-28 for 328 yards and a 50-yard touchdown toSantana Moss.

SOUTHERN COMFORT GATHER NO MOSS

With 61 catches for 876 yards and five touch-downs through 13 contests, Redskins wide receiverSantana Moss is on pace for his third 1,000-yard re-ceiving season of his career. He also accomplishedthe feat in 2003 as a member of the New York Jets, and in 2005 when he went on the Pro Bowl. He isalso on pace for his second 75-catch season, whichhe accomplished in 2005.

Moss’ receiving yardage total is 15th in the NFLand eighth in the NFC, while his 61 catches areeight among NFC wide receivers. His five touchdowncatches are tied for ninth in the conference.

With a touchdown in the first three weeks of theseason, Moss extended a streak dating back to lastseason of catching a scoring pass in six consecutivegames, including playoffs. It tied a Redskins recordheld by Hall of Famer Bobby Mitchell, who did it in1964, and is the second-longest streak of Moss’s ca-reer behind the seven straight games he did it fromOct. 12-Nov. 23, 2003.

His touchdown receptions in weeks two, threeand seven against New Orleans, Arizona and Cleve-land each came in the fourth quarter and proved tobe the deciding margin in Redskins victories.

Likewise, Moss’ 80-yard punt return for a touch-down in the fourth-quarter against Detroit put theRedskins up 22-10 in an eventual 25-17 victory. Itwas only his second return on the season. That fol-lowed a 50-yard touchdown reception by Moss in thethird quarter, his third reception of at least 50 yardsthis season, which is tied for the fifth-most in theNFL. For his efforts, Moss was named NFC SpecialTeams Player of the Week.

Washington defensive tackle Kedric Golston(right ankle), linebacker Marcus Washington (leftankle sprain) and cornerback Shawn Springs (leftcalf strain) all missed last week’s game against Bal-timore. Golston is expected to return this weekagainst Cincinnati.

In the Ravens contest, tackle Chris Samuels suf-fered a triceps tear and is likely out for the season. Also in the game, offensive lineman JustinGeisinger injured his left knee, defensive tackleCornelius Griffin suffered an abdominal strain, safety Chris Horton sustained a stinger and rightshoulder injury, while tackle Jon Jansen suffered aleft MCL sprain and tight end Todd Yoder sprainedhis left knee.

Defensive end Andre Carter (right foot), line-backer London Fletcher (left foot) and runningback Clinton Portis (left knee) have all playedthrough injuries in recent weeks.

“He is one of those guys who doesn’t have the mea-surables. He is not is not 6’4”, 250 pounds and run4.5 40. He is smart as heck and he has seen justabout anything. There are few teams who have theluxury of having a guy in the middle who you are notgoing to fool. A lot of people talk about Lofa Tatupu, but I think London is the original Lofa Tatupu. Hehas been in the league longer. He has that knock onhim that he is not big enough, not fast enough, buthe always seems to be the guy coming out from thebottom of the pile. I like guys who might have aknock on them, but they make up for that with theirpreparation, their study and their passion for thegame. You can see that with London and the way heplays.”-Daryl Johnston, Fox Sports

LaRon Landry

“When I watch tape of the Skins defense, I amamazed at Landry’s play. He has great range andplays the game with incredible toughness. He is allover the field and has the instincts to anticipate thethrow. He is best when he is coming on the blitz. When the Skins put him in the box, he plays the

game like a linebacker. What people forget aboutRonnie Lott was his ability to play corner and theathletic skills he possessed. Lott was a rare one-of-a-kind player and although Landry does not haveLott’s man-to-man skills, he does play with the sametype of physical intensity.”-Michael Lombardi, National Football Post

Santana Moss

“(Santana Moss) is a really great receiver. This guy’sa pro bowl receiver.”-Wade Phillips, Head Coach Dallas Cowboys

“Santana Moss is a very good player. You’ve got tostay as deep as you can because you know he has theability to beat you with the pass.”-Patrick Watkins, S Dallas Cowboys

Clinton Portis

“He will rise to the occasion when challenged and isa very competitive running back with or without theball. Week in or week out, there are not many backswho play as hard. He is a talented runner who, when called upon to carry the load, can do it.”-Charley Casserly

“Clinton Portis is the league MVP through fiveweeks.”-Adam Schein, Fox Sports

“I think the guy's unbelievable. He works his tail off.I don't think the fans get a true appreciation for howhard he works without the ball in his hands. I neversee him take plays off."-Troy Aikman, Fox Sports

“If you want to stay on the field, you have to able tounderstand protections and be able to block. He isone of the best that I have seen. There are a few ofthem out there that are real good and Clinton is def-initely at the top of the list. He has great tech-nique. He strikes a blow and he is not intimidatedby anybody. He takes pride in it. He honestly seemslike he enjoys being the guy who allows the quarter-back to make a throw down the field.”-Daryl Johnston, Fox Sports

Mike Sellers

“Mike Sellers has linebackers running from him, sothe running lanes have been there.”-Clinton Ports, RB Washington Redskins

Jim Zorn

"Jim Zorn is the best quarterback coach in the NFLand when it comes to who is second, it’s not evenclose."-Phil Simms, CBS Sports
