*Redacted* October 27, 2015 To Whom It May Concern: My husband and I moved back to Prince George 12 years ago. We had looked all over the city looking for a lot to build our dream home, in a quiet neighborhood where we could raise our children safely. When we found the Edgewood subdivision, within city limits and so close to downtown, we fell in love with it. The properties are all good sizes, it is a well- established neighborhood with a lovely mix of people, and has a well respected neighborhood school only a few blocks within walking distance. Our 6-year-old son started kindergarten at Edgewood Elementary School last year. One of our main reasons for moving to this neighborhood was to have the opportunity for our son to walk to school. However, we soon realized how dangerous it is to walk the 10 minutes down Stevens Drive and along Churchill Road. There are no sidewalks for the children and parents to walk safely. Edgewood is a feeder school for children further down North Nechako, so there are several school buses and many parents, grandparents, and guardians who drive their children to school along Churchill Road every day. The kids are forced to walk along the edge of the road or on people's lawns. However, during our long winters the snow exacerbates this situation. Unfortunately, our own street, Brink Place, is rarely cleared by the city. But Stevens Drive and Churchill are not cleared regularly despite Churchill being a school bus route. This creates extremely subpar conditions for our small children to walk. The lack of snow clearing results in a couple major ruts that most vehicles follow. The snow is often too deep to walk anywhere but in the ruts, which are in the middle of the road. This causes an extremely dangerous situation in the dark winter mornings for our children just trying to get to school. When a vehicle does drive down the road, the children are forced to jump into the deep snow or snow banks to get out of the way. This flies in the face of road safety that we are trying to teach our son. I can appreciate this might not be an issue if we lived in the country. However, we live in city limits and pay city taxes. In particular, after recently building a new home on Brink Place, we pay significantly high taxes. We would like to see sidewalks established on Stevens Drive and Churchill Road in order to increase the safety for our children walking to school. This would also increase the safety for all people living in this subdivision including the elderly and it would improve the value of properties in this neighborhood. We hope the City of Prince George hears our concerns and take this into serious consideration. We appreciate your time. Sincerely, Prince George, BC

To Whom It May Concern:

My husband and I moved back to Prince George 12 years ago. We had looked all over the city looking for a lot to build our dream home, in a quiet neighborhood where we could raise our children safely. RE: Edgewood Terrace Community Pedestrian and Traffic Safety

To Hi Wor hip Mayor Lynn Hall and Councillors for the City of Prince George

I am a re ident of Edgewood Terrace re iding at 4120 Brink Place. I am writing to how my support of safety impro ement for p destrian and traffic in our n ighbourhood.

Edgewood Terrace i a growing ubdivi ion and the traffic and pede trian concern will only continue to grow with it.

I have three children and they are walked to and from Edgewood Elementary daily. I am ery concerned for their safety, due to the high traffic volume and how narrow the roads

are.

Many of the students at Edgewood are from outside the immediate area and are driven or take the bus to chool. Thi causes high traffic olume during the time the neighbourhood kid are walking to and from school increa ing the safety risk.

As this is a residential neighbourhood may p ople park their vehicles on the already narrow roads. This force pedestrians further into the road and cars and busses pass the kid teady. This is a concern during good weather but things become much worse come winter.

During the winter month the roads get extremely narrow and the road is often only wide enough for single lane alternating traffic. This then gives no room for the pedestrians and ifs onl a matter of time until tragedy strikes.

I want to feel my kid are safe walking to school and as of now I do not. I would like to see sidewalks in the neighbourhood o my kids have a safe place to walk. Plea e consider this proposal and help up keep our kids safe.

Sincerely

Holly Bragg

RE: Edgewood Terrace Community Pedestrian and Traffic Safety

To His Worship Mayor Lynn Hall and Councillors for the City of Prince George,

As a resident living in Edgewood Terrace at 4119 Brink Place I am writing to show my support of safety improvements for pedestrians and traffic in our neighbourhood.

My 6 year old daughter is in grade 1 at Edgewood Elementary School. My 4 year old son attends the Strong tart program at Edgewood and will begin Kindergarten there in eptember 2016. We walk to school most mornings. Without exaggeration I am afraid for the safety of my children every time we walk along Churchill.

During the months when we don t have snow the road isn t wide enough to safely accommodate two regular vehicles and pedestrians walking on the side of the road there is certainly no room for school busses and pedestrians to share the road. Every day drivers going opposite directions are forced to stop and proceed with single lane traffic to safely allow for us to walk to school. As you can imagine this situation is made infinitely worse in the winter with snow banks and our inability to walk on people s lawns.

There is a development at the end of Brink Place that will bring 58 more family homes into Edgewood Terrace. Adding this new vehicular and pedestrian traffic makes it even more imperative that we have sidewalks in our neighbourhood. Thank you for carefully considering the concerns of me and my neighbours and for working with us to ensure the safety of our current and future community members and visitors.

incerely

Mayor Lyn Hall and City Council Members City of Prince George l l 00 Patricia Boulevard Prince George, BC, V2L 3V9

Dear Mayor Lyn Hall and City Council Members:

I am a resident of Edgewood Terrace and I would like to express my concern for pedestrian safety for our two main (and only) access arteries into our subdivision. Many residents of Edgewood Terrace have expressed their concerns for pedestrian safety at various council and community hall meetings. Traffic volume, narrow roads and a lack of sidewalks contribute to an unsafe pedestrian experience and an ever increasing anxiety for parents and children walking to school.

During school season children are forced to share the road with school buses, cars and trucks. Churchill is the main access road to gain entry into the subdivision and to Edgewood Elementary. The roads in the subdivision are not very wide and any vehicle parked on the side of the road forces pedestrians into the line of traffic or on to people' s private property. This is a parti.cular concern during the winter months in which pedestrians face narrower, snow packed, icy road conditions and single lane traffic.

A sidewalk would ensure the safety of school children as well as the many pedestrians practicing a healthy lifestyle and those accessing the bus system on North Nechako Road. Our subdivision should be made safely accessible to the elderly as well as people with mobility restrictions.

We believe that a raised concrete curb and gutter sidewalk system on Churchill Road (from North Nechako Road to the beginning of Craig Dr.) as well as Stevens Drive (from the beginning of Brink Place to Churchill Road) would be the solution. We sincerely hope that City Council will consider a proposal to add Churchill Road and Stevens Drive to the capital projects plan for the City' s sidewalk implementation strategy.

As a concerned parent, and as a person that enjoys walking over driving, I sincerely hope that a sidewalk connecting our Elementary School and North Nechako will be in our near future. Thank you in advance for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Andrea & Matthew Duperron 2100 Gregory Place
