Blvd, Tampa The Recycle Regatta challenges participants to construct a watercraft from at least 70% recycled materials. Teams will launch from Lowry Park Boat Ramp and paddle across a 50-yard course on the Hillsborough River providing a hilarious competition for the spectators to enjoy. This head to head race will be a competition between high school groups, colleges and corporations. Winners of each regatta will receive bragging rights and other prizes. The winning high school group will also receive the “travelling oar” to be kept at their school for the remainder of the current school year. Building materials must be taken from items that would have otherwise been thrown in the garbage. Some suggested materials for the crafts include plastic soda or milk containers, old inner tubes, and reused wood. Excluded building materials include toxic materials, auxiliary power sources and any kind of glass. Teams will be encouraged to come up with their own unique ideas for construction materials and design. The creation must be a two-person, human-powered floating vessel – no motors, no pool floats, no working sails, and no trained dolphins. All crew members must bring and wear a USCG approved life vest. Criteria: Participant Categories: -High School clubs (sponsored by an adult) -College/Universities -Corporations Requirements: Minimum of 70% recovered material (saved from being thrown away) *Materials may include plastics, papers, wood, rubber, etc. Two-person vessel (participants must begin race on the boat) In-water participants (crew) must be a minimum of 14 years old Human powered, no alternative power source NO hazardous material allowed NO pool floatation devices allowed (including foam noodles) NO air mattresses or other inflatable devices Make sure your materials are secured, so they do not float away Use your imagination and have fun!!! Safety Guidelines: All groups must complete the Liability Release Agreement, BRING and wear approved life vests, closed-toe shoes, and follow all safety procedures provided by water safety personnel What to Bring: Boat, paddles, shoes that will stay on feet, 2 life vests, sunscreen, and towels, change of clothes for crew Entry Cost: $100 for corporate groups, no cost for school groups
