BACKGROUND Ecuador is a small

country in South America where people do not have the recycling culture.

Target Students: 12-14 years old, High School with Intermediate Level of English. No. 20

BACKGROUND Many people are

worried about pollution and the amount of trash we have. So in many cities trash cans are placed throughout the streets but no one recycled anything

PURPOSE

The students will become familiar with popular

Attitudes toward recycling and the practice

of recycling in the community

TIMETABLE FIT Students have studied, present

tense, past tense irregular and regular verbs.

about recycling Have the confidence to ask

questions using the target language

CONTEXT

This lesson is the first of a big project to help students realize about the big problem we have with the trash and to be aware of it, so they can change their attitude toward trash and start a recycling culture.

PRESENTATION: FUTURE TENSE

Ask a Question to the students about the future of the Planet if we continue throwing garbage, wasting water, using air contaminators, etc. What will be the consequences?

Elicit from the students some ideas about this and write their answers on the board.For example:

The planet will get hotter and hotter.

TASK Write novel sentences using the new

vocabulary and future tense. Create a plan to recycle things in your house.

ASSESSMENT Once students get aware of pollution

and contamination, allow them to select one reason to recycle. Have students work with a partner to come up with two new reasons. Students should record their ideas in a journal, using words and/or pictures to show two good reasons

Have students share their ideas with the class.

ASSESSMENTAsk students: Why do you want to recycle? What are you going to do? What material can you recycle?  What object did you choose? What material is it made of? What new use did you think of for this

material?  Why would the material be good for this

use? Why would it be a good idea to reuse

this material?

your and others lives. We have to take care of our environment We have to be aware of our planet’s
