Solvo Vir Specialist Recruitment Qualifications

Created especially for recruitment businesses. Funded by the government

Our recruitment qualifications provide directly relevant work-based learning for people in the recruitment industry – and the government is happy to provide funding. Sounds too good to be true? It’s not. By putting professional recruitment qualifications into apprenticeship frameworks, we’re able to provide high quality government-funded training tailored to specific job roles.

We work closely with the Institute of Recruiters (IOR) and the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC), so our apprenticeship frameworks cover exactly what you want people to know and do. Your staff up their game, earn recognised qualifications, and boost their careers. You get that much-needed edge over your competitors so you can bill more, faster.

Programmes include a personal tutor and one-to-one support for employees plus regular webinar sessions. Training timetables fit around your working patterns, so you see minimum time away from the desk and maximum impact on the ground.

The apprenticeship advantage

Apprenticeships offer employers the opportunity to access government-funded training for both existing staff and new recruits. This means you can both upskill your own team on the job, and also bring in enthusiastic new people knowing that training will be provided.

Taking part in an apprenticeship leads to a nationally-recognised qualification, making programmes popular with those already in work and those just starting out alike.

Provide apprenticeship training to current staff, and you benefit from increased skills, stronger motivation and greater staff retention.

Provide apprenticeships for new recruits, and you attract energetic and talented young people with fresh perspectives into your business – in the most cost-effective way possible.

It’s a simple win-win that makes sense for any recruitment firm wanting to succeed in today’s competitive marketplace.

Solvo Vir recruitment expertise

Developed in collaboration with the IOR and the REC, our recruitment apprenticeships are designed by respected professionals with direct practical experience of the skills needed by employers.

Solvo Vir company founder Carl Smith is himself a former head-hunter. Having run his own recruitment firm, he knows first-hand the pressures the sector faces and where the skills gaps lie.

Training is delivered in partnership with awarding body and work-based learning specialists, SkillsFirst.

Our in-depth industry understanding means we’re able to match you with the training frameworks that best suit your particular needs. That’s important, because not every framework will be right for every employer.

Put together, these factors result in training that’s relevant, engaging, and effective. As staff put new skills into practice, productivity improves and earnings increase.

You want to grow your recruitment business. You can see what’s possible, and you’ve got a clear vision of where you want the business to go. You know that to succeed, you’ll need to outperform your competitors – consistently.

But with your team’s current level of skill and knowledge, that winning level of performance is proving elusive.

You don’t have the budget for expensive training programmes – even if you could find anything appropriate. And recruiting new people with the competencies to get you ahead of the game is proving a struggle.

So where do you go from here?

Key facts

What is an apprenticeship?

A structured training programme that allows people to combine work with studying and at the same time gain a recognised qualification. Apprenticeships are based on specific frameworks designed to give people the skills and knowledge they need for particular industry sectors and job roles.

How long is an apprenticeship?

Different apprenticeship frameworks have different durations. Ours last for periods of 13 months upwards.

Who are apprenticeships for?

Anyone over 16 and not in full time education. There’s no maximum age limit. Both new and existing employees can take part in apprenticeship programmes.

How are they funded?

Government funding covers the costs of the training we provide, subject to apprentices meeting eligibility criteria. To find out more about the criteria, just ask us.

Organisations in England with fewer than 50 employees may also get a £1500 apprenticeship grant for each of up to 5 apprentices.

What’s included?

Apprenticeship training covers the following five components:

Competence – learners must demonstrate relevant practical skills in the workplace.

Knowledge – the underlying theory.

Functional skills – to make sure maths, English and ICT skills are good enough for the person to operate effectively at work.

Personal, learning, and thinking skills (PLTS)* – behavioural skills to help apprentices succeed in work and in life.

Employment rights and responsibilities (ERR)* – apprentices learn about both the responsibilities they have as employees and also their rights under employment law.

*not required for Higher Apprenticeships (Level 4 and above)

What qualifications do people get?

Apprenticeships are linked to the national Qualifications and Credit Framework. The QCF is a flexible system allowing people to earn credits which can be used towards a wide variety of qualifications. It provides three categories of qualification for apprenticeships, each giving a different number of credits. The number of credits is related to the amount of work involved rather than the educational level - each credit is roughly equal to 10 learning hours.

What educational levels are the qualifications?

Apprenticeships are offered at the following levels:

Award: 1 - 12 credits

Certificate 13 - 26 credits

Diploma 27 credits

Name Level Equivalent educational level

Intermediate 2 5 GCSE passes at grades A* to C, BTEC level 2

Advanced 3 2 A level passes, BTEC level 3

Higher 4,5,6,7 BTEC level 4 up to Bachelor’s or Master’s degree

Degree 6,7 Bachelor’s or Master’s degree

There are also traineeships, aimed at preparing school leavers for apprenticeships and jobs. These are available at Entry Level (pre-GCSE), Level 1 (GCSE grades D-G), and Level 2.

What’s expected of you

As the employer of an apprentice, you’re expected to do the following:

Provide a specified job role

It’s important the apprentice has a defined role. If you’re taking on a new recruit, you must assign them a specific job title and provide a job description.

Comply with employment law

Apprentices are employees just like any other member of staff. They need a contract of employment and have the same employment rights as anyone else.

Pay the minimum apprenticeship wage

Government funding applies to training costs, not to salary. However, the minimum wage for apprentices is lower than for other employees, making recruiting apprentices a very cost-effective option.

Allow time for training

In return for the funding, employers are required to give apprentices time for training

within working hours. With our programmes, this time requirement is kept to a minimum. Most learning is done during two - three hours a week at-the-desk study, alongside one-to-one tutor visits. There’s no need to travel to external training sessions. Apprentices also need to compile portfolios, but this can be done in their own time.

Introduce apprentices to new tasks

In order to gain the full range of skills and competencies, apprentices must have opportunities to get involved in a variety of tasks and activities.

Provide supervision and encouragement

Your apprentice will need support and guidance from experienced members of your team – encouragement from colleagues and managers makes a huge difference.

Meet with tutors, verifiers and the apprentice to review progress

Regular review meetings give us the chance to make sure everything is on track and to resolve any problems.

What’s expected of the learner

Apprentices must commit to the programme and complete activities according to the agreed timetable.

This means they are expected to:

Agree and commit to a personalised learning plan

We involve apprentices in creating their own learning plan, so it’s practical and slots into their work schedules.

Attend meetings with trainers, assessors and verifiers

These meetings give apprentices one-to-one input and support and ensure real learning is taking place.

Participate in scheduled training

Formal training is kept to a minimum, which makes it particularly critical that apprentices join in.

Provide evidence of competence and understanding

Apprentices produce a portfolio of evidence to show they are competent in the relevant activities and have developed appropriate underlying understanding.

Interviews

We interview candidates, looking out in particular for the traits that indicate a potential super-efficient resourcer or hyper-billing consultant.

Shortlisting and skills scan

You get a shortlist of suitable candidates, which includes the results of a detailed skills scan covering literacy and numeracy as well as aptitude for the specific apprenticeship role.

Support with induction

We can help you design induction processes to make sure your new recruits settle in fast and become productive quickly.

What you can expect from us

As your apprenticeship provider, we will:

Provide high quality training that meets awarding body and Ofsted quality standards

We are approved as a training provider by the Skills Funding Agency (SFA). This means our activities meet the SFA’s strict criteria and are subject to regular Ofsted inspection. On top of this, our programmes are accredited by leading awarding body, SkillsFirst, who undertake their own regular checks.

Arrange funding

Our membership of the SFA’s Register of Training Providers allows us to draw down government funding directly. There’s no need for you to apply for funding or process any financial paperwork.

Plan learning that fits the individual and your workplace

A detailed three-hour initial assessment establishes what skills and knowledge the apprentice already has. The assessment can be done face-to-face, online or over the

telephone - whichever works best for you. We share the results of the assessment with the apprentice and with you, to create an individual learning programme that fits into your workplace.

Provide targeted training resources and support

The apprenticeship framework is purely the starting point. It’s our highly targeted training material and knowledgeable tutors that make the difference. Learning resources are relevant and engaging, and tutors with industry experience provide guidance and support.

Assess learning

Our tutors are qualified assessors who ensure apprentices have genuinely taken on board the knowledge and skills required.

Organise certificates

Certificates are awarded directly by our partners, SkillsFirst. There’s no waiting or separate application process. Successful apprentices also receive an Apprenticeship Framework Certificate detailing all the aims achieved.

How to get started

The first step is for us to understand your business and what you’re looking for. We can then agree what framework(s) you need, and get the ball rolling by enrolling and assessing your apprentices – or sourcing new recruits if required. With our experienced team
