For this lesson, please follow the link to the school website to access the resource sheets (Topic 9.7.20 classification of living things and Topic
9.7.20 classification poster lay out) that will help support you with your learning: http://www.woodwater.devon.sch.uk/children/upper-key-stage-2/
Main Task:
1. Look at and read through the resource sheet (Topic 9.7.20 classification of living things) available on the school website. Look at the
pictures of the living things in each ‘group’. 2. Use the information on the resource sheet to make a poster to help classify vertebrates into different groups e.g. mammals, fish, birds,
amphibians… To help you understand how you could present this, look at Topic 9.7.20 classification poster lay out.
3. Follow these steps when designing your poster:
1) Write a main heading ‘Vertebrates’.
2) Decide on 3 vertebrate ‘groups’ e.g. mammals, fish, reptiles… (there are others)
3) Under each ‘group’ write the name of an animal that belongs in that group e.g. elephant
4) Underneath the name of the animal, write the characteristics of the ‘group’ that animal belongs to e.g. ‘gives birth to live young’.
5) Illustrate if you wish.
Challenge: design a similar poster for invertebrates
