MOVING TOWARDS A NEW ERA - NEW TECHNOLOGIES
ATSEP SMC - Working Position
Virtual centers & Remote Towers
Future CNS will rely on a Network Centric Approach…
• The Human intervention- Advance ATSEP - Working Position – SMC • New Health systems monitoring & Advance software tools.• Human decision support tools(AI).Challenge: Human issues: stress, lack of attention, loss of situational awareness are factors that we should examine.
Risk: Increase dependency on automation will imply to consider automation failure scenarios, complex systems resilience and human de-skilling.

Cyber Resilience/Security … a very big challenge
where?* Remote towers & Virtual Centers* Enhanced Automation* Networked services, SoA* DLS communication.* Integration of RPAs (UAV/UAS/Drones,..) in ATM
* Availability, accuracy, integrity and security of critical info.* We focuses on solid preventative measuresCyber-security protection for a robust, resilience and data-sharing environment
Cyber- resilience/Security
IFATSEA view on the way forward - New challenges
• Data link complementary technologies.• Integration of RPAs (UAV/UAS/Drones,..) in ATM.• CNS rationalization.• “Digitalization/Automation of ATM” .• Enhanced Reality, remote towers and virtual towers.• Networking services and SoA-Service oriented architecture.• Cybersecurity and Expert Systems - Artificial Intelligence - in ATM.• Legal Liability issues
IFATSEA CONOPS for Cybersecurity in the ATM/ANS to facilitate resilient operations.Currently a new task for EC, ATCOs and ATSEP Working PositionCommon goals in the CONOPS are : - The cyber intrusion must never reach the Controller or the Pilot (ideally) - ATSEP to certify the reliability and integrity of all data.

IFATSEA view on the way forward - New training challenges
New training disciplines for ATSEP
Presentation by Costas Christoforou, Director Region Europe slide nr 12/15
Presentation by Costas Christoforou, Director Region Europe slide nr 13/15
New challenges for ATSEP like:
• Training in Cyber Security, it just started… • RTs, virtual centers & cloud services, • New ATSEP Working Position - SMC , • Change Management,• SWIM Networking, • Satellite Navigation monitoring, • Safety Culture,
* Needs that will arise in view of the incomingtechnologies (… and not foreseen in EU373).
* Specific training is foreseen to be defined, for the interfaces between legacy and modern systems beingin operation during the “transitional phase”.
* Well trained ATSEP > Actual value of safety chain. new challenges for ATSEP like training in Security, in cloud services, new SMC ATSEP WP, SWIM, Safety Culture, Satellite Navigation monitoring, as well as the needs that will be arisen in view of the incoming technology, albeit not included in syllabus of Annex XIII. Conclusions
The new system is still a Safety critical Socio-technical environment,
New approaches on technologies and concepts are used, Systems are increasingly automated and interconnected… The issue of monitoring and control has not been solved yet.
Digitalization/Automation is surely the way forward, BUT…
* We should keep a sharp outlook and take a wise and stepped approach.
* ATSEP trainings should be adopted to the new ERA, * New regulations - new Domains, new Syllabus, new Skills
