Successful companies are pretty good at creatingincremental improvements to a product or service to sustaincustomers in the mainstream market.

Disruptive innovations create their market through theintroduction of new business models that compete at thebottom end of an existing market, or create a new market atthe boundary of an existing market. They do not take on theincumbents head-on.

Agenda Disruption Defined

Disruptive technologies are innovationsthat displace existing technologies,change practices and/or create newindustries.

Fast-moving companies worldwide areestablishing entirely new product andservice hybrids that disrupt their ownmarkets, create new ones, and generatebold and fresh revenue streams.

These are scary times for managers inbig companies.

• Disruption is a process over time.

• Disrupters often build very different business models.

• Some disruptive innovators succeed, some don’t.

• Disruption is a ‘natural’ feature of business.
