Dear Artemis Nazarian Preschool families, you are reading the first issue of four “Caterpillar Times” newsletters to be published during 2013-2014 school year. We are looking forward to a productive year with a shared mission of enriching the youngsters’ minds!
The Red class students started to adjust to their new classroom environment. They became familiar with the daily routines. It was exciting to see them make new friends and learn one another's names. We also discussed appropriate ways to show our friends that we care about them and how important sharing is with one another.
During the month of September, we learned about apples, bears, and caterpillars. The children listened to many stories, learned poems, and participated in science activities. They were excited to learn about the caterpillar and its life cycle. Each student made a colorful caterpillar and learned the following poem:
“Caterpillar” I'm a little caterpillar, green and fat. But, I won't always look like that. I'll grow and change, as time goes by Then I'll turn into a butterfly. Ms. Mary

Blue Class
On August 15, 2013, the Artemis Nazarian Preschool team welcomed the new batch of ANP-4 students with open arms. Hearts were filled with excitement and smiles were seen on faces as our students began their last chapter of their preschool journeys. Returning to the preschool they love, the students of Blue Class began to strengthen the friendships they had built previously as well as make new friends. We began the year by instilling a strong social foundation for our students by learning the importance of being a good friend, standing up for ourselves, and being honest, respectful, and patient. Academically, we are strengthening our listening, focusing, and critical thinking skills. We are all looking forward to the remaining school year that is sure to be filled with lots of laughter, growth and love.
A Little Bird I saw a little bird, come Hop, hop, hop So I said, “Little bird will you Stop, stop, stop?” I went to the window to say, “How do you do?” But he shook his little tail, And away he flew. Ms. Lusine

have twenty children in our class who are ready to
learn and experience so many different things. We
have done a lot since we started the school year in
mid-August, including how we learned about the
changing season from summer to fall. We
discussed how the warm summer weather will
change to become windier, how the leaves will
start to change their colors from green to red,
yellow, orange, and brown, and how the wind will
blow and cause the leaves to fall down to the
floor. In addition, children brought different kinds
of fall fruit from home including grapes, apples,
bananas, pomegranate, and pears, which we
talked about and tasted. We read the story called
“Fall Leaves” and the children truly enjoyed
being involved in different kinds of arts and crafts
related to Fall.
Fall Leaves
Fall leaves are
Falling down, falling down, falling down.
Fall leaves are falling down,
Red, yellow, orange, and brown.

White Class
Hello from White Class!! We have spent the last few weeks of school getting to know our friends and getting to know ourselves! We spent many days talking to one another, playing with one another and spending the day with one another! We learned about our bodies. We did amazing body artwork and we did "Picasso Art!', We were very excited to show our parents the way we view ourselves!
Orange Class
In the month of October we will go for nature walks with the children around the school grounds. They will discover the changes in nature, such as leaves with different colors, the falling of the leaves, the changes in weather, etc. We are also excited to welcome Halloween, do activities with them for the occasion and see all your beautiful children wear their costumes!

A Poem This is the circle that is my head. This is the mouth where words are said. These are my eyes with which I see. This is my nose that's a part of me. This is the hair that grows on my head. These are the eyes on the side of my head. My happy smile is here to stay. I'm glad to be in school today!
Child Development Corner CHARACTER TRAIT EDUCATION
Throughout the year, preschool children will learn about Six Character Traits including, Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring, and Citizenship. We teach these traits through daily interaction with adults who model the appropriate behavior. Teachers recognize and reward good behavior, at the same time motivate other children to show good behavior. Tommy the Turtle, taught the children the importance of telling the truth, respecting the rules, and not taking things that don’t belong to them. In the month of October, Rusty the Respectful Raccoon, will teach children to use good manners, be kind to friends and family, and to not hit or hurt others. By teaching the children these 6 traits, we hope to help build their character and give them the tools they need to help make better decisions in life. Ms. Lilly
Green Class Green class students have begun their journey into the Wonders of the World. In the month of October, they will learn about planet Earth. As students are introduced to this phenomenon, exposure to myriad of monuments will be explored. For example, the pyramids in Egypt, the high mountains of Peru, the stunning architecture building, the Colosseum that was build 2,000 years ago, the Taj Mahal in India and the Wall of China. Additionally, they will learn all about map and the crucial aspect it represents since it is a source of primary information for historic investigation. But what is a map really used for? This and other questions will be answered and investigated throughout this topic. Lastly, the children will learn the reason for maps, locations and how they can navigate from place to place.
Here is a poem we learned: I went to the animal fair The birds and the beasts were there The big baboon by the light of the moon Was combing his auburn hair. The monkey tripped on a skunk He stepped on the elephant's trunk The elephant sneezed And fell on his knees. And that was the end of the monk The monk, the monk. And that was the end of the monk. Ms. Parig
