Rosalía de Castro (1837 - 1885) Rosalia de Castro is today the unquestioned poet laureate of Galicia (Spain). Highly educated, expected to speak and write Spanish only, she took the bold, unconventional step of writing her early poems in the Galician language.

Although she was the author of a number of novels, she is best known for her poetry. She is the symbol and representation of Galician feelings and the greatest exponent of the poetry of its people

Alameda Park is Santiago de

Compostela’s most representative green space and consists

of three different parts: Paseo da

Alameda, Carballeira (oak grove) de Santa

Susana andPaseo da Ferradura.

The park borders part of the old town

and provides a magnificent view of

the monumental west façade of the

cathedral. It shows a large variety and size

of trees and ornamental species,

such as its oak groves. These oak

trees are typical from Galicia
