3. Demonstrate your hobby focusing ona specific skill you built.

LI: To explore probability experimentsSC:Identify single-step experimentsDescribe a sample spaceApply understanding of probability in physicsexperimentReflect on your findings.Learning Task

This is a mini-copter. Today you will be usingthis mini-copter to conduct a probabilityexperiment.

1. Hypothesise how many times yourmini-copter will land on the targetpaper placed on the ground out of 20trials. Write it down clearly in yourbook.

LI: To apply reading strategies to my CAFE goalSC:Identify my CAFE goalDescribe strategies to work towards my readinggoal.Apply Strategies before, during and afterreading.Generate evidence for CAFE goal withreflection

Learning Task:Find a quiet and comfortable place to read(away from devices, this is Screen FreeLearning).Have your book and pen/pencil ready to recordany thinking tracks before, during and afterreading.Write your CAFE goal at the top of your page asa reminder of your purpose when reading.Set a timer for 40 minutes and read a novelfrom your own library at home (If you do nothave one use Epic or Reading Eggspress as alast resort).Make sure you include

4. What would you do differently tobuild this hobby again?

Use the remainder of this lesson to continueyour hobby. Ensure you are collecting anddocumenting your evidence to share with yourclass.

Reflection: Think to yourself and answer - “If Iwere to complete this project again, would Ichoose the same hobby or change it? Why/why not?”

2. Print or Draw out your mini-copterfrom the template (Click the picturefor the larger template)

3. Draw up a table and test it out withthe instructions below.

Start at Encoders and move your way down toextend your experiment.EncoderBuild your mini-copter and conduct 20 trials, recording whether or not it lands on the paper. At the end, write down the probability of yourcopter landing on the landing site.ConsolidatorBuild a mini-copter with a design improvement(you may wish to make the wings shorter, move the clip, add some speed stripes, etc)and conduct 10 trials, recording whether or notit lands on the paper. At the end, write downthe probability of your copter landing on thelanding site.RetrievalRepeat the experiment with either copter, butmark the centre of A4 paper with a dot andmeasure the distance from the dot to wherethe copter touches down each landing.Conduct 10 trials.ReflectionWas your hypothesis correct? Why/ why not?Where would this type of experiment be usedoutside of school?

● Which strategies you are going tofocus on

● Evidence of your goal

Reflection: How well did I provide evidence ofmy CAFE goal? What could I improve on fornext time?

*Remember we do not expect or want everydevice used - as an author you need to thinkand decide what will work best for youraudience and when*
