Colors and cuts and styles, oh my!

Kaylyn Padlo does all that and more for her loyal clients at Breton Salon in Turlock, which is why she was voted the Tur-lock Journal Readers' Choice for Hair Stylist.

“I’m happy, I’m positive and I love my job,” she said. “I know I’m good at what I do because my clients come back and tell me they love me and their new style; that’s what it’s all about.”

Padlo has a passion for cuts and colors but also does waxes for eyebrows, upper lips, “the whole face, basically.”

Her art, passion and skill for cosmetology is seen throughout the community and she wel-comes new clients to visit her if they’re in need of a special event style or something new.

“I love people and I love

making them feel better about themselves,” she said. “My clients tell me that I listen and work with them to give them exactly what they want. They really appreciate the time that I give them.”

Padlo enjoys being located in Turlock and says the commu-nity feel is incomparable.

“Turlock is literally the best,” said Padlo. “I wouldn’t want to be located anywhere else, the community aspect of what I do and where I do it makes all the difference.”

As for Padlo’s career, she plans to continue to work and grow her business here in town.

“I work every day on getting better and better,” she said. “I want to do this for the rest of my life.”

Circuit training, weight training and cardio outline an everyday workout at Harding Bootcamp.

Anthony Harding, owner and trainer at Harding Bootcamp, keeps the goal in mind of challenging people every day while keeping the workouts fun and inter-esting at the same time. His hard work at making people work hard for their fitness goals has earned him the Turlock Journal Readers' Choice for Best Bootcamp.

Harding believes that he has the best clients out there.

“[My clients] are very understanding, they know my philosophy and know what I’m trying to do,” he said. “I challenge them and they accept my crazy workouts; they don’t complain, they just do it.”

Harding Bootcamp is a fun and en-ergetic workout program that includes motivation, accountability and dynamic resistance training designed to get clients the bodies they want in a safe and fun environment.

“It has given people a place to go and

improve their health and fitness,” said Harding. “That’s a big thing in general, but to have a spot here in Turlock to just go, have fun and work on goals is a very big deal.”

The biggest thing for Harding, however, is the impact that he is able to have on his clients’ lives.

“I love knowing that I have the oppor-tunity to make a positive impact for some-one every day,” he said. “...to be able to say I helped them change and think differ-ently about health and fitness, and overall just being part of their lives.”

Harding laughed and said that his cli-ents put up with him and his “crazy work-outs” whether it’s in the freezing cold or sizzling summer, they keep coming back for more.

“My clients mean the world to me and are the reason I’m in this business is to make an impact,” he said. “I’m very grateful and feel blessed to have them put their faith in me and allow me to guide them to a healthy lifestyle.”

Gardening is a popular hobby in the Central Valley where the ideal Califor-nia climate is conducive to growing and The Greenery Nursery and Garden Shop in Turlock is largely responsible for cul-tivating many locals’ ‘green thumbs’ and was voted the Turlock Journal Readers' Choice for Best Garden/Landscaping.

The Greenery has been in business for over 45 years, offering locals a variety of plants as a full service nursery, from shrubs to trees, seeds to perennials. The Greenery meets the needs of local home-owners, new gardeners and even busi-ness landscapers and offers plants that are mainly grown within the Stanislaus County.

An emphasis on locally grown offer-ings as well as a knowledgeable staff set the Greenery apart from other gardening options, as the store also boasts a multi-tude of offerings in their gift store and in the statuary art department. Fountains, concrete benches, and metal garden art are also available and can be found in the Greenery’s outdoor patios amidst their floral and plant offerings. The Greenery also offers more than 70 free seminars a year on Saturdays throughout the year, from September to May. Topics range from how to plant summer vegetables to the popular annual Japanese Maple workshop which features correct pruning, fertilizing, planting and watering techniques.
