Thank you from Jean Lewellyn

Dear friends,

Jean Lewellyn wanted me to express her gratitude for the wonderful gourmet meals she has beenreceiving through our Meal Train program. She said they are not only delicious and top restaurant qualitybut they fed her soul as well. All the years she was giving of herself through the parish care team shesaid she did not really know how much it meant to receive care from a circle of friends. She feels loved! This week Jean's long time friend has come to stay with her for a time so meals will not be necessarybeyond July 22nd. Thank you all for your willingness to send love to Jean through your gifts of cooking!

Stay well,Debbie RingenFaith Community Nurse

Deborah Ringen, our Faith Community Nurse, writes: "Hurricane season 2020 has begun; amidst thecoronavirus pandemic and racial injustice we still need to prepare for the whimsy of mother nature. As wewell know, hurricanes can cause storm surges, heavy rainfall, inland flooding, high winds and rip currents. Are you ready to evacuate or shelter in place for days without power or access to food and water?"

Blair Fund Supports Community Need

The Blair Fund operates quietly within the body of First Church of Christ to help needy families in OldSaybrook. The Blair Fund was established in 1979 by Reginald Blair, who bequeathed money in his willto 'help the poor of Old Saybrook.' Each year, monies are disbursed to support individuals in severalways.

Some ways the Blair Fund is making a difference include summer camperships at the Old Saybrook Parkand Recreation, support of Family of the Month, sponsorship of Youth and Family Services programs forneedy seniors, as well as an annual Blair Fund Scholarship for graduating Old Saybrook High Schoolseniors. Typically, we support individuals and families who meet the qualifications for SNAP guidelines. Inaddition to the support mentioned above, in the past we have supported needy individuals who haveexperienced financial hardships with utility bills, medical bills, gas cards, etc. During the current pandemic crisis, we anticipate an increased need in our community. If you or someoneyou know may benefit from Blair Fund support, you can reach out to Rev. Ed, who may make a third partyapplication on behalf of a needy person or family. Third party applications are always anonymous andconfidential. In addition, if you wish to help support the Blair Fund, donations are always welcome. If youhave any questions about the Blair Fund itself, you may reach out to members of the board: Val Cook,Ann Shea, or Karina Julius.
