Career Transition

A person who is in transition desires to make a career change. Change may be voluntary or involuntary. This presentation will offer recommendations for maximizing your career transition.

Preparing for transition

Re-Evaluate your skills, interests, talents.

Ask yourself the question, “What would I like to do if money were no object?”

Take skills inventory assessments The Artist’s Way, by Julia Cameron is a

great self analysis guide or Covey’s seven habits

Cross reference the jobs you have had in the Occupational Outlook Handbook

Investigate career development resources

Contact the Career Center and the alumni association at your alma mater. Membership benefits often include discounts.

If you want to speak with someone in person, check with your local community colleges or major public universities.

Utilize a private career consultant

If you were laid off and your company provided outplacement services, take advantage of them.

Private consultants are also available to individuals. Research reputable companies and career coaches in your area.

Hire a marketing or PR professional

Establish a new personal brand or identity Devise a strategy on major social media sites (LinkedIn,

Facebook, Twitter) Blog about your area of expertise or interest
