PREFACE
It gives me immense pleasure to place our SSR report. Our college was
established in 1966 with a vision to impart quality education to students
coming from all the sections of the society keeping in mind that the
catchment area includes rural area. Since the inception, our college has been
fulfilling the objectives laid down during the establishment of the college
and all stake holders of the institution which include administration, faculties, non teaching staff, students, and society are contributing for overall
development of the college. The college has adequate number of classrooms
and has a campus of 14 acres with good sports facilities. Students of our
college takes part in various cultural, social and academic activities. In the
era of globalization, quality has no limitation, and therefore our staff put
their efforts. I sincerely appreciate the efforts made by my staff for the
efforts to prepare this SSR.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Introduction
The college with name Shankar Sao Patel (S.S.P.) as abbreviated here after was
established by then Honorable MLA Shri Bipin Lal Patel on 01.07.1966 as Non-govt. institution. Shri
Bipin Lal Patel paid Rs. Twenty Five Thousand as university affiliation fee at that time and the college
was named after his father’s name Shankar Sao Patel. Since 01.07.1966 to 24.02.1987 it remained as
Non-govt. College, functioning under a governing committee. The College was taken over by the
government from 24.02.1987.
The college has 14 acre campus with sufficient track, Basketball ground, Cricket
ground, Volleyball ground, Hockey ground, Library, Auditorium, well spacious office, Computer Lab
and other science laboratories, and fifteen lecture rooms.
The first Principal of college was Shri Dinesh Paliwal from 01/07/1966 to
28/02/1974. He was the founder member of this institute. Since its establishment courses in History,
Political Science, Hindi Literature, Economics and Commerce were started at under graduate level.
Faculty of law is running in this college since 01/07/1970, the first in the district. The courses of
computer application in B.Sc, B.Com and B.A. were started in 2001. The college has made courses
available of BBA, BCA, and M.Sc. in computer science as professional course for the students coming
under its catchment area from 2012.
The college has National Cadet Corps unit since its establishment i.e. 1966 and added
National Service Scheme under its belt in 1976 as extra co-curricular activity for the betterment of the
students. The college is also having Swami Vivekananda Carrier Guidance Cell and Personality
Development Cell functioning under the government instructions.
The college is situated in Balaghat district, approximately 16 km from the head-
quarter and situated in Waraseoni tehsil. It is a sub-divisional town. Following is the information about
the educational institutes in the catcment area of Waraseoni is as under:

The college has advanced IT enabled smart class rooms for teaching. The college is
also running virtual classes under various government instructions. Our college has a newly constructed
50-seated Girls Hostel with financial assistance from UGC under XIth Plan. We are trying to make the
hostel functional for the benefit of girls. The college has a library enabled with free Wi-Fi facility and
is enriched with 04 journals and 40171 books.

This Institution is a government college affiliated to Rani Durgavati University,
Jabalpur and duly recognized under 2(f) and 12(b) criteria of UGC following the directives of the state
government. Jan Bhagidari Samiti at the college level has been constituted in 1997 which is taking more
and more participative role in developmental activities of the college.
There are fourteen regular teaching staff members posted at this college. Five teachers
are Ph.D. holders and two of them hold LLB degree. There are 12 guest faculty teachers against the govt.
sanctioned post (Annexure Attached). There are 12 temporary teachers for the self financing courses and
paid through Jan Bhagidari fund. (Annexure attached). There are two part time teachers in Law
department who are paid through Janbhagidari fund (Annexure attached).
The college actively participates in sports activities following the sport calendar issued
by the govt. of M.P. The college team is selected through the inter class events and other viable basis,
which participate at district level. Division level team is selected at the RDVV Jabalpur, which participate
at inter-University level. All these activities are co-ordinate by the sports officer and suitably assisted by
other staff members.
There are in all twenty seven non-teaching staff headed by the Head Clerk to assist the
principal. There are one UDC, one LDC and four Lab Technicians. Fourth Class workers are engaged
though Janbhagidari Samiti fund for the smooth running of the college, There is also a laboratory
technician in computer lab of the college who is paid through Janbhagidari Samiti fund.
The college has spacious library attached with a reading room. The Library at presently
is headed by a librarian who is through Guest Faculty appointment and suitably assisted by a regular
teaching staff member.
The college has NCC and NSS units, which are very active and work under the charge
of regular teaching staff members. This college actively participates in Yuva Utsav activities following
the university calendar and under the able supervision and monitoring of the in-charge regular teacher.
The college strives for NAAC accreditation at the earliest so that the college becomes more viable with
changing times, suitably mends and improves its functioning to meet the increasing qualitative aspect of
higher education. At tehsil level, the college can boast of starting law education first time in the district in
years 1970 and some eminent judges are passed out students of this college. In the coming years
infrastructual development is the major thrust area along with expansion of subjects at PG level
At present college is taking full assistance from government, UGC, Jan Bhagidari
Samiti and Jila Jan Bhagidari to fulfill its presents and future needs.
The principal Dr. Sarita Kolhekar as chief coordinator has constituted a steering
committee as follows with Dr. Satyasheel Gedam as coordinator and Dr. H.P. Sharma and Hemant Kumar
Mandale as members to prepare the Self Study Report.

Moreover there is a government scheme “Chhatra Grah Yojana” in which a group of students of SC,
ST may take a house on rent. The rent is paid by the government. There is another scheme Awasiya
Yojna providing financial assistance to day scholars in which 593 students were benefited in the
year 2014 – 15 and 341 applications have been forwarded so far in the current academic session.

1.1 Curriculum Planning and Implementation
1.1.1 State the vision, mission and objectives of the institution, and describe how these are communicated to the students, teachers, staff and other stakeholders.
The institute has a mission and vision to prepare student for the University
and competitive exams along with the development of integrated personality.
Vision is to make students contributive towards social and national
development.
This college imparts higher education to about 1500 students who pass out
from here as base to seek their fortune in various fields of life as a self-
conscious societal man. The students are imbibed with qualitative aspect of
academic and non-academic curricula, to be more successful in competitive
world. The college opts for persuasions rather than coercion, developing
informal chains of communication which orient students towards the
traditional value system. Developing scientific temper based on logic is the
vision of this college and focusing on informatory aspect in this globalized
world.
The vision of this college is to prepare students for the university exam with development of integrated personality. Our vision is also to focus on all-round development of the personality of the students and work to develop in them a sense of responsibility, team-spirit, leadership skills and sound communication skills.
Objectives of the college are to make both qualitative and quantitative
expansion of knowledge and make itself renowned seat of learning. Our
objective is also to develop skilled human resource to compete with
contemporary challenges of our society.

Curriculum is been prepared by the Central Board of Studies, Bhopal. The college is affiliated to Rani Durgawati University Jabalpur (MP) and the curriculum for the graducation course is unified. Teachers use various teaching innovatives and affective teaching techniques apart from traditional methods. Teachers make their action plan semester wise according to the syllabus and prepare their daily diary. Planning and its implementation is regularly monitored by Principal. Govt. 1.1.3 What type of support (procedural and practical) do the teachers
receive (from the University and/or institution) for effectively translating
the curriculum and improving teaching practices?
The faculties are given free hand by the administration to demonstrate their
skill of teaching in the classroom. Administration provides full assistance in
the form of reference books, research journals, computer, internet, smart class
rooms etc.
Administration encourages the teachers to participate in seminar, symposia,
workshops, orientation / refresher courses organized by other universities to
update their knowledge and to sharpen their teaching skills.
1.1.4 Specify the initiatives taken up or contribution made by the
institution for effective curriculum delivery and transaction on the
Curriculum provided by the affiliating University or other Statutory
agency.
Teaching plan and the teaching diary are prepared at the beginning of the
academic session. It is approved by the principal. The conventional teaching
strategy of chalk and talk method is mostly used as a teaching method.
The effectiveness of the delivery is further raised by other modern methods
like OHP, LCD, and Power Point presentation. The college also has the
facility of smart class rooms and virtual class rooms to make teaching and
learning process more interesting. These classes have a proper internet RF
connection.
There is a project work prescribed in the syllabus in semester V of graduation and
semester IV of post graduation.
1.1.5 How does the institution network and interact with beneficiaries
such as industry, research bodies and the university in effective
operationalisation of the curriculum?
Syllabus prepred by the university is been completed in the given time so that
universities can go with their plan. Other than that college does not have any
research facility. We work according to the academic calander given by the
departmet of higher education.

members to the development of the curriculum by the

The college is a government organization and is affiliated to the Rani
Durgavati University Jabalpur. It does not design its own curriculum.
However, suggestions are given to the concerned when ever asked.

No. The college follows the syllabus provided by the department of higher
education MP.
1.1.8 How does institution analyze/ensure that the stated objectives of
curriculum are achieved in the course of implementation?
Teacher prepares their academic plan and implement it according to the plan.
This is monitored by principal on the monthly basis. During the session, the
following mechanism is applied to ensure that the state objective of the
curriculum is achieved.
The implementation of curriculum is further realized through Continuous
Comprehensive Evaluation for students, which also reflects the performance
of students during the session.
The practical knowledge of student is clearly demonstrated through semester
practical examinations in different subjects.

No, the University does not provide for the flexibility of combining the
conventional face to face and distance mode of education.
However, the college has virtual classroom where the students get the
opportunity to interact with experts of various subjects.

The college being a government institution follows the ideals of government. It
follows the curriculum provided by the central board of studies.
The college aims to impart such knowledge as may be necessary for the all
round development of the personality of students. Personality development
lectures and skill based programmes are regularly organized.
Continuous Comprehensive Evaluation is done on regular basis in each
semester.

As stated earlier, college has no role in designing curriculum. It follows in toto
as provided by the department. However, if asked the suggestion, the colleges
suggest discussing with the faculties available in the college.
Our college has a well furnished computer laboratory connected with internet. It
gives the facility to the students to go with the currents trends globally. Our
library is wi-fi enabled. Registered students with the library can use internet for
e-learning as per their requirements.

The cross cutting issues are taken up through various regular activities
conducted in the college. The college organizes seminars, subject based
lectures bring the awareness among the students.
Apart from this our NSS and NCC units organizes and conducts programmes
to the related issues at times. A regualar seven days camp of NSS unit is
organized annually in which the awareness programme regarding these issues
is carried out.
Various schemes of government related to these issues are also discussed
occasionally.

Cell of the college organizes activities according to the schedule provided
the higher authorities.
Better Career Options:
NCC unit of the college gives guidance and training to students to make their
carrier in the armed forces. Other than that motivational lectures and carrier
opportunies at different level is been discussed in various stages to the
students.
Community Orientation:
The college NSS team organizes seven days camp on an annual basis where
awareness on dignity of woman, health and hygiene, AIDS, benefits of small
family, child care, swachhta abhiyan, social evils like alcoholism, betting,
gambling, smoking, tobacco chewing, environmental degradation etc. is
spread among the people.

2.2.1 How does the institution cater to the needs of differently- abled

Our college follows the rules of the government in this regard strictly.
2.2.2 Does the institution assess the students’ needs in terms of
knowledge and skills before the commencement of the programme? If

The college organizes “College Chalo Abhiyan” as per the instructions
provided by the department. In this way our institute tries to assess the
students’ needs before the commencement of the programme.
2.2.3 What are the strategies adopted by the institution to bridge the
knowledge gap of the enrolled students (Bridge/Remedial/ Add-
on/Enrichment Courses, etc.) to enable them to cope with the
programme of their choice?
Zero classes are held at the beginning of the academic session for the
beginners. These classes cover the general topics such as language awareness
(Hindi and English), general aptitude, general mathematics and other related
topics.
A general briefing about the syllabus and about the course is done by every
teacher to make students comfortable to the course which they are going to
study in their classes.
The college arranges personality development programs for the students
under the belt of Personality Development Cell.

Awareness programmes are being organized on the regular basis with the
help of units of NSS and NCC and Personality Development Cell on the

Our teachers identify advanced learners in their regular lectures.
Identified and such marked students are given special attention by the
teachers by giving them special attention in terms of providing them extra
books other than the course related to the topics. They are provided
special attention in the library. They use e-learning resources in the
library as our library in Wi-Fi enable.
Other regular practices are also done with these students such as taking
class lectures in the regular classes, making papers on different topics etc.
The Teachers take extra pain in helping them with an additional and
personal interest. They are provided with the additional time, advanced
learning materials and assistance from the teachers.

information on the academic performance (through the programme
duration) of the students at risk of drop out (students from the

2.3 Teaching-Learning Process
2.3.1 How does the college plan and organize the teaching, learning and
evaluation schedules? (Academic calendar, teaching plan, evaluation
blue print, etc.)
Our college follows the academic calendar released by the department of
higher education M.P. Govt. The time table is prepared by the committee
formed by the principal for all the faculties and displayed on the notice board
and on the website of the department.
Each faculty functions according to the time table. A teaching plan is
prepared by every faculty member and gets it approved by the principal. The
teacher takes their lectures according to the plan to the at most possibility.
The final evaluation of students is done according to the university schedule.
Towards the end of each semester, theory and practical examinations are
conducted by the university and evaluation is carried out. The exam results
are declared and mark sheet are issued by the university. However,
continuous cumulative evaluation of students is done as per instruction given
by the department.
2.3.2 How does IQAC contribute to improve the teaching –learning
process?
The IQAC monitors the implementation of teaching plan and suggests
completing it within the time frame. Teachers are told to submit their records
to the IQAC so that it can evaluate the achievements and give suggestions
accordingly. The committee also suggests to use modern teaching aids to
make teaching-learning more effective and productive. We have smart class
room in our institute and our committee encourage our teachers to use the
equipments with the help of teaching materials available in internet.

The college is having a library with sufficient number of books and students
are allowed to make the maximum use of books and journals in the reading
room available. College has a Wi-Fi enabled library where registered
students can use internet freely for their academic purpose.
There is a very good sports facility in our college for the students who are
interested in sports. We have facility of volley ball, foot ball, badminton,
basket ball, hockey and other sports also.
We manage to conduct various short term courses under Swami
Vivekananda Carrier Cell which are skill-based and are of the use of
students.
Class room seminars, motivational lectures and other class room activities
are done to make teaching learning process interesting and which is student
centered.
Personality Development Cell organizes lectures as per schedule for the
benefit of students that may help to improve their personality which can help
to achieve what they desire.
In addition to the traditional methods of teaching, teachers give lectures in
smart classes.

scientific temper among the students to transform them into life-long

We have well equipped science laboratories for the faculties. Different
practicals are done by students under the supervision of the technicians.
Projects works are prepared by students as internship in sixth semester of
their course. Scientific documentaries are shown in the smart class room
with the help of internet to develop the scientific temperament of students.

Debates, essay writings and ex-tempo activities are also organized in our
college to improve the critical thinking and creative approach to the subject.
Group discussions, science quiz competitions and preparing charts and
model practice is also used by our teachers.

Our college has a proper internet connectivity of broad band, NME and RF
connections. We have two virtual smart class rooms and one virtual class
room for the effective teaching. Teaching is done through interactive boards.
We have a well furnished computer laboratory with good electricity backup.
Our library is Wi-Fi enabled where students can use it for their subject in
internet for the registered students. Teaching is also done with the help of
LCD projectors and Over Head Projectors.

The college has smart class with proper RF internet connection. Learning
resources are availed from internet whenever required. Experts’ lectures are
made available through virtual class running in our college. Our library is
also Wi-Fi enabled. We also organize class room seminars and workshops to
improve the skill of students. At times expert lectures are also conducted.

Swami Vivekananda Carrier Guidance Cell of the college organizes skill
based programmes annually and at about 150 students are benefitted in each
of such programme.

the students.

Zero classes are organized at the beginning of the session as a psycho-social
support and guidance to the students who are taking a step forwards towards
higher education.
Personality Development Cell of the college also gives academic advice and
guidance to the students according to the schedule provided by higher

During the last four years the college has adopted new methods of teaching
and learning. Two smart classes are set up with interactive boards and RF
internet connectivity. A virtual class has been set up with the help of
department of higher education. A well equipped and furnished air
conditioned computer laboratory is there with NME connections for the
benefit of students. Use of LCD projectors and other new teaching methods
have been provided to the teachers to make them updated with the new
methods of teaching and learning. Administration ecouranges teachers to use
these methods on the regular basis to make teaching-learning process more
effective. Students are taking more active participation in the academic
activities using these ways of teaching methods.

The monitoring of the quality of teaching and learning is done by the IQAC
of the college. The Head of the departments monitor the teaching within the
classrooms. Overall monitoring is done by the principal on monthly basis. A
discussion about the overall performance in done in the Jan Bhagidari
Meeting organized twice in a year in which there is participation of every
section of the society.

The college has started the new courses of BCA, BBA and M.Sc. Computer
Science as self financing course and teachers are appointed through
Janbhagidari funding in these courses. To fulfil the vacant seats of faculties

A general discussion is done in the meeting of Jan Bhagidari Samiti held
twice in a year which consists of representation from all possible field of
society. IQAC of the college maintains the record of teachers’ performance.
Students’ evaluation is done by the affiliating university in the form of
examinations.

The college follows the instructions of the departments strictly. Institute can
adopt reforms in terms of CCE which is internal mode of examination by
using various ways.

Our college implements the rules and instructions of the department and the
affiliating university strictly. It is been monitored by the principal.

Formative assessment is done in the form of CCE in its various modes.
Summative assessment is done by the university in the form of semester
examination for summative approach one compulsory CCE exam is taken in
the mid semester. And then only he can enter the final semester exams which
comprise the whole semester syllabus.

CCE are the internal exams taken by the faculty members. It comprises of
15% of the total marks of the subject paper. Faculty members assess students
in different aspects, and the marks are sent to the university through online
process. A project work in the last semester is taken on the subjects and
modes available in the locality. Students are sent at different places and 25%
of the marks have been allotted to the concerned where project work has
been carried out.

A graduate is one who applies for the graduate course in the University and
who by continuously attending the class(having minimum 75 % attendance)

The management of the college ensures that all the students attend their class
regularly. They are made to appear in the CCE exams and partake in the
JOPW programme. Only then they are admitted to the main exam.

At college level student grievance cell is there for the redressal of students
problems. It is done as per the government rules and regulations.

drinking water if there is any electricity failure.

The college organizes training programmes for the students to develop entrepreneurial skills. Some of the programmes are Bakery, Beauty Parlor, Computer Awareness. Fashion Designing, Tally Accounting etc. 5.1.6 Enumerate the policies and strategies of the institution which

At the time of admission candidates are counseled to choose the right subject combination in their graduation. Swami Vivekananda Carrier Guidance Cell, the personality development cell, the NSS, NCC and Sports department provide guidance to the students as per requirement. 5.1.9 Does the institution have a structured mechanism for career

programmes). Yes, the institution has a structured mechanism for career guidance and placement of its students. The Vivekananda Carrier Counseling Cell is established in the college as per the notion of department of Higher Education M.P. It helps student at various levels.

four years. Yes, the institution has a student grievance redressal cell. No such report has approached officially to the cell. However, when approached the grievance has been resolved immediately. Apart from that there is CM helpline as platform where students can raise their issues.
