Medical MissionMedical MissionMedical MissionMedical MissionSaturday, May 30, 2009, Barangay Saimsim, Laguna

In cooperation with dental and medical teams, our club

conducted a one-day medical mission in Barangay

Saimsim, situated in Laguna. The constituents were given

one of the basic services badly needed in this rural area,

and that of enhancing health care for the marginalized

poor. There were several patients treated through check-

up of blood pressures, dental care, including haircut.

Credit is given to our very own Dir. Alice Villanueva who

made this mission possible. Dir. Alice was the principal

organizer who brought the medical and dental teams and

coordinated the activities conducted within the premises

of her Am-Europharma factory.

This is an annual club event during the month of April

timed with Dir. Alice Villanueva’s birthday celebration,

an expression of love offering.

From our club, CP Renie Andrews, Pres. Jing Sarao, PE

Ruth Nocum, PP Maridel Villavicencio, PP Mari Lacson,

PP Cynthia Reyes, PP Carol Mercado, PP Erwyn

Alcomendras, PP Beth Lao; Dir. Odette Ong, Dir. Tessie

Santos, Dir. Marie O Connor, Dir. Alice Villanueva and

Dir.Marissa Fenton all attended in support of this mission.

At the international level, PDG Jimmy was first appointed as Rotary International Zone

7B Coordinator for Literacy by past RI president Wilf Wilkerson in 2007-2008. He has

since been re-appointed to the same position by RI president Dong Kurn Lee for 2008-

2009, and, more recently by incoming RI president John Kenny for 2009-2010.

PDG Jimmy is a frequent speaker and resource person in Rotary meetings, conferences,

and seminars both within and outside his home district. He has written many articles on

Rotary topics for his club bulletin and Rotary e-groups.

A devoted family man, he is happily married to Luz V. Villagonzalo, with whom he has

three children, now pursuing diverse professional interests.

Over the past forty years of his professional life, PDG Jimmy has been at the helm of

programs and institutions in government, the academe, the church, the mass media,

engineering and management consultancy, human resource development, real estate

development, and financial and insurance services.

He is currently Chairman of the Board of South Merville School, Vice-Chairman of the

RGV Group of Companies, and Chief Executive Officer of Creba Land Services & Title

Warranty Corporation.

He once served the government of former Philippine president Fidel Valdez Ramos

concurrently as Director-General of the Technology and Livelihood Resource Center and

Chairman of the Presidential Commission to Fight Poverty, the precursor of what is now

known as the National Anti-Poverty Commission. He has served as President of the

ASEAN Association for Planning and Housing, of which he is a lifetime member. He is

currently into his fourth term as National President of the Chamber of Real Estate and

Builders’ Associations, Inc. (or CREBA).

PDG JAIME A. CURA

To many, PDG Jimmy has been a source of inspiration since his

term as our District Governor during Rotary Years 2005-2006.

And for the same reason, we have invited PDG Jimmy to share

his insights on how best we share our Rotary spirit this year.

Past District Governor Jimmy Cura is an active Rotarian of 29

years, serving as president of the Rotary Club of Rizal West in

1984-85 and, more recently, as Governor of Rotary International

District 3830 in 2005-06. He is a multiple Paul Harris Fellow of
