Day 2 – ARRIVE IN AMSTERDAM, HOLLAND - EMBARKATIONWelcome to Amsterdam, a modern city with a rich and fascinating 700-year old history. Explore its unique and elegant architecture, colorfulmarkets, lively cafés and markets, and vibrant nightlife. This evening, meetyour fellow passengers on board at the Welcome Dinner.
Day 3 – AMSTERDAM, VOLENDAM, EDAMAfter breakfast, enjoy a scenic morning cruise through the historic harborand canals of Amsterdam. See the beautiful homes that line the water, thefabled Skinny Bridge, and the famous house where Anne Frank spentyears in hiding during World War II. Later, enjoy a panoramic city tour thatincludes a windmill and other iconic landmarks. Return to the ship forlunch while you cruise the Ijsselmeer towards Volendam. Enjoy a lateafternoon tour of Volendam Harbor where you can see the fishing fleet andreturn and the historic fish auction building. Continue by motor coach toEdam, a picturesque town with a rich historic past. You will have a walkingtour of the Old Quarter’s beautiful houses, canals, bridges and churches,including one of the largest in Holland, the Grote Kerk (Great Church).
Day 4 – ARNHEM, NIJMEGENArrive in beautiful Arnhem early this morning and see the Battle of ArnhemBridge made famous by the classic film “A Bridge Too Far.” You’ll also visitthe Airborne Museum to learn more about the Battle of Arnhem, one of themajor campaigns of World War II. If you would prefer, you may insteadenjoy a tour of the most stunning royal residence in Holland, Het LooPalace, with lavishly furnished rooms and meticulously sculpted gardens.After your tour, return to the ship for lunch while you cruise to Nijmegen fora city tour. Enjoy scenic cruising this evening as you sail through theNetherlands en route to Belgium.
Day 5 – ANTWERP, BELGIUMThis morning, enjoy a walking tour of Antwerp and see Antwerp Castle,Grote Market, Brabo Fountain and the city’s superb architecture. Anotheroption is to visit the Rubens House, former home and studio of Peter PaulRubens, the famous 17th century Flemish Baroque painter. You will alsovisit the Antwerp Cathedral, which houses two of Rubens’ most importantworks, The Elevation of the Cross and The Descent from the Cross. Theafternoon is free to explore Antwerp on your own or take an optionalexcursion to nearby Brussels, the capital of Belgium and site of NATOheadquarters. After dinner, your ship departs for Ghent.
Day 6 – GHENT, TERNEUZENAfter breakfast, take a guided walking tour of Ghent, which includes suchhighlights as the Belfry Hall, the Koornlei, the Graslei, once the medievalharbor, and the Castle of the Counts, modeled after a crusader’s castle.Cruise to Terneuzen this afternoon and enjoy some free time or take anoptional excursion to Bruges, one of Europe’s most perfectly preservedmedieval cities and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Early this evening,cruise through the Dutch region of Zeeland, home to one of the world’smost complex engineering projects, the Delta Works, which took more than30 years to complete.
Day 7 – WILLEMSTAD, THE NETHERLANDS, KINDERDIJK,SCHOONHOVENThis morning we will stop in the charming 400-year old town of Willemstadfor a walking tour and private organ recital at the oldest Protestant churchin the Netherlands. In the afternoon, explore the UNESCO World HeritageSite of Kinderdijk, a lovely village known for having the Holland’s greatestconcentration of windmills, all dating from the 1500s. Enjoy a specialonboard musical performance this evening as the ship cruises toSchoonhoven, where we will moor overnight.
Day 8 – AMSTERDAM, KEUKENHOF, AMSTERDAMWe arrive in Amsterdam today. This morning’s excursion to the famous 70-acre Keukenhof Gardens will take your breath away as you witness thespectacular displays of millions of flowering tulips. Return to Amsterdamand spend the rest of the day at your leisure. The ship moors overnight inAmsterdam.
