harsh conditions for pop-up rotors. In
addition, rotors are continually removed
each time turf is replaced (3 times a

a division of the Royal Botanic Gardens
melbourne, is one of victoria’s most
precious areas of native bushland and
offers nature-lovers the chance to explore
363 hectares of untouched heathlands,
wetlands and woodlands. Rain Bird
SiteControl (decoder version) was the
chosen control system because of the
massive diversity of the site. Rain Bird
1800 sprinklers were chosen because

Eagle Farm Racecourse (Qld)It now takes Bill Shuck, course
superintendent at the historic Eagle Farm
Race Course in Ascot, Queensland, around
half the time it used to to water the 14
hectares of track, lawns and paddocks
under his control.
“Since we had the Rain Bird system
installed in April 2003, the watering time
has been cut dramatically, and the site
control system is really easy to use – even
for a computer novice like me.
There’s a graphic overlay of the race
course showing actual sprinkler and zone
locations, so it’s really easy to identify,”
says Bill. “The back-up service has been
great too.”
The specially designed Rain Bird Site Control
irrigation system at Eagle Farm comprises
two separate pump stations which are
interconnected. Each one provides a
maximum capacity of 14 litres per second to
104 stations each with four rotors.

trainers, Freedman Brothers Racing have
won over 100 Group One races and

their markdel property on the mornington
Peninsula, Freedman Brothers have
established ‘state-of-the-art’ training
facilities including sand and turf training
tracks. These are irrigated by Rain Bird

uniformity required to bring the tracks

Dalziel’s Vineyard (SA)A third generation family farm, Dalziel’s
vineyard consists of 160 acres of mixed
wine grape varieties in Barmera, in South
Australia’s Riverland. Producing high-
premium wine grapes requires high water
application accuracy and scheduling
which is why SiteControl was installed.
In addition SiteControl was the perfect
solution to handling the complexities of
irrigating within the Riverland’s rostered
water program. The powerful ‘Flow
manager’ Tm feature also helped to fit
programs with set watering windows.
Future expansion was made easy and
was a key element in choosing the
decoder version which allowed for such
expansion to take place without added
complications or expense.

Downes Wholesale Nursery (NSW)Downes wholesale Nursery have
undertaken a massive new development
of a 145 acre property at Theresa Park in
Sydney’s west, developing it into one of
the largest wholesale nurseries on the
east coast of Australia.
Downes have chosen a Site Control
system with state-of-the art ET-based
scheduling, customised site graphics,
multiple mapping options and the ability
to ‘see’ the placement and operation
of individual valves and sprinklers. The
system makes controlling irrigation
precise, fast and intuitive. It adapts
irrigation rates to levels of rainfall and can
even provide automatic frost protection
which is so important in the nursery

communication system. As a result of
the many unique water saving features
which maxicom uses (including Auto ET
