Summary
The suburban define a set of complex spaces. It can be named as an interface between
the city and countryside. These areas have expanded mainly during the twentieth century,
going with population growth and technological revolutions. The suburban essentially in-
clude suburban and industrial areas, agricultural lands, natural areas and a network of in-
frastructures and roads. This mesh and land management impact physically and biologically
suburban areas. Economic growth associated with demographic and land pressures also af-
fect suburban areas in many ways.
The soils are waterproofed, which induce asphyxiation and produce surface erosion
(poor infiltration of rainwater). The soil is also contaminated by non-environmentally prac-
tices (industry and agriculture). The landscapes and natural areas are divided, damaged and
not are used as interface. The climate incur the urban pressures (pollution and heat produc-
tion), and temperatures have a tendency to increase. There are implications for crops, natural
areas, plants and human and animal populations. The soil conditions and climate change
are harmful to the agriculture health: yields are less good. Land management is complicated
by splitting spaces. Global warming, agricultural practices, urban pressure, natural areas
breaking and ecological corridors, affect seriously biological diversity, and ecosystem health.
Many species are disappearing and it's a great harm to the environment. The services pro-
vided by biodiversity and regulations operated by trophic networks are real. There are nec-
essary to the health of spaces but also human health. The previous observations are reflected
in sanitary. Polluted water and organic disorders lead colonization spaces by harmful pests
and diseases proliferation carried by viruses and microbes becoming ever more resistant to
treatments.
All that is relative depending on the countries studied, but it is certain that if the
periurban spaces are popular and interesting areas in many stand points, they are also subject
