OVERVIEW
North Waziristan is the northern part of Waziristan, a mountainous region of northeast Pakistan, bordering Afghanistan and covering 11,585 square kilometers. Waziristan comprises the area west and south-west of Peshawar between the Kurram River (Tochi River) to the north and the Gomal River to the south, forming part of Pakistan's Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA). Miranshah is capital of North Waziristan. Bannu, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa lies immediately to the east North Waziristan has been severely hit by the militant operations against the local Taliban’s staying in two Tribes Dawar and Wazir. Intensive nature of operation has devastated the property, public places and households of the local people and displaced them towards the settled areas of KPK. The operation make them out from their homes bare headed and bare footed. They are without any household. Nobody is with any household belongings. According to the our team reports, approximately 439,668 individual have been totally displaced to settled area of Pakistan due to the recent operations; where they were get settled and staying different villages of Bannu , Norang, DI Khan, Kohat, Karak, Taal, Hangu, Peshawar and Lakki marwatin. As per clearance of the situation in the areas of these IDPs they were get returned to their villages.
With extensive presence in and understanding of Bannu, BFO engaged local Enumerators to conduct the survey in their respective villages inside Bannu. The strategy was based on the prevailing security circumstances in Bannu. BFO has a pool of around 12 educated enumerators from Peshawar and Bannu, who have been trained by BFO and been involved time to time in various perception surveys and other research studies. For this data collection, BFO has involved 10 local enumerators who were experienced and qualified to carry out the assessment with some prior training and guidance. Involving locals in the assessment not only reduced the risk factor but also made it socially acceptable for them to enter into the target villages and speak with the communities. This strategy also facilitated the identification/location of village in far flung and off road areas. Before field work actually started, the team was provided with the list of villages and work plan for the assessment. They were also
given guiding principles that would help in carrying out field activities in an efficient manner keeping in mind the overall objective of
the project.
MANAGEMENT PLAN
BFO worked closely with COMMUNITY MEMBERS to ensure close monitoring of the whole survey exercise. From the team of enumerators in each village, BFO used one individual as a lead to oversee and ensure that the questionnaires are completed as planned and the survey aims are achieved as envisaged. Hiring local staff ensured better cost control and zero visibility in regards to law and order situation. BFO Chief Executive has the overall responsibility for the survey project and He personally visit bannu to overview the Assessment by BFO Team. The survey exercise made use of appropriate support staff, including the Program Manager Research and other administrative support. The Program Manger ensured the quality and effectiveness of the project and worked closely with the project management staff to ensure that findings were documented and shared with key stakeholders, and translated quickly into appropriate actions
