From the Principal’s Desk...
Dear Waddell Language Academy Parents/Guardians,
We believe that all children can learn at high levels in a school environment that is supportive, challenging and engaging. At Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, we’re passionate about creating that learning environment — to maximize aca-demic achievement for every child every day.
I’m proud of the work of our teachers and staff, and confident in their skill and commitment. But I also know we cannot succeed alone. CMS must partner with you and other parents to ensure our students’ success.
That’s why we’re launching our 2015 School Climate Survey of Parents, asking for your feedback. The survey launches Monday, March 30, 2015 and is open to all CMS parents.
The survey asks about important topics such as academic preparation, parent/guardian engagement, safety and behavior, school operations and school lead-ership, among other topics.
When you take this survey it’s completely anonymous. CMS works with an inde-pendent partner, K12 Insight, to give this survey. Results go directly to them. No one at CMS will know if you participated, or be able to connect you to your answers. So please answer honestly. Your candid feedback is critical to ensuring we move CMS in the right direction.
If you have a current email address on file, you’ll receive a personal survey invi-tation. If not, you can participate by going to www.k12insight.com/CMS/Parent2015.html or clicking the link on our district website. If you don’t have easy access to the Internet, paper surveys are available upon request by visiting the school office.
By sharing your experiences and opinions, you can help create meaningful change at CMS. I hope you will partner with us and make your voice count! We would like to hear from every parent.
Please welcome new front office secretary Kristin Suttle! Kristin is an App State grad who grew up in Costa Rica, and is fully bilingual in Spanish. She is also a studio artist. She loves using data to understand and solve problems. We are excited about having her join our office team. Welcome, Kristin!
NEW home - school communications procedures!
In order to be consistent with the procedures for sending transportation changes and absence notifications, we have created two NEW email addresses for your convenience. All secretaries at Waddell can access these email "boxes," which will minimize problems if a staff member is absent.

6th grade Community Problem Solvers
The 6th grade CmPS team, Stop TADing (Texting And Driving), has decided to tackle the problem of distracted driving this year. While we do not drive ourselves, we see many drivers on the road using their phones during our commute to and from school or other activities. We realize that this is a problem and have developed a website to tell you more.
Please visit our website at http://drivetextdie.weebly.com/ to take our initial survey, read about our project and take a final survey. We also have links to many social media sites including Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and Google+. Please follow us to stay updat-
