Expose a dark surface

to solar radiation so

that the radiation is

absorbed. This heat is

then transferred to

thermal/heat storage

tank and utilized.

FLATE PLATE COLLECTOR

4

• Consist of casing, absorber plate, transparent glass covers, insulating material and fluid passage tubes.

Page 5: Rajnish

5

• Device that collects solar radiation and heats a coolant, which in turn will be used in residential settings to heat water or the home.

Page 6: Rajnish

A flat-plate collector is placed at a point such that its length aligns with the line of longitude and is suitably titled towards south to have maximum collection.

Here, β=Tilt Angle or slope of plateβ 6

Θz=Zenith angle

α=inclination angle

γs=solar azimuth angle

It is similar to LFPC with change in the configuration of the absorber and tube.Air is used directly as the working fluid.Pressure no becomes very high

inside the collector.

Page 10: Rajnish

It increase concentration of solar radiation on the flat absorber.

It has a large acceptance angle and increase the concentration ratio.

Reflector &metal tube receiver at its focal line.black receiver tube increase

absorption.It rotate about one axis to track the sun.

It consist of fine ,linear grooves on the surface of the reflecting material on one side & flat on the other side

is used.A concentration ratio of 10 to 30 may be realized which yeld temp 150 to 300 degree.

It consist long narrow fixed mirror strip on the

circular reference cylinder with a tracking receiver tube.Tube is made to

rotate about the centre of curvature of the reflector

module to track the sun.the concentration ratio near same as the number of mirror strip.

It rotate about its optical axis aparaboloidal shape is produced.Beamradiation is focused at a point in theparaboloid.Required two axistracking.PDC of 6-7m in diameter arecommercially manufactured.

It consist hemispherical fixed mirror a tracking absorber and a supporting

structure.All ray enter & after reflection cross the paraxial line at the some pt b/n

the focus and the mirror surface.

Page 13: Rajnish

It is used where high flux is desired such as with silicon solar cells or gallium arsenide solar cells as receiver.It divided number of thin circular zones.theconcentration ratio may be high as 2000 but less than paraboloidalreflector.Tracking is required to keep the small solar image centered on the receiver.

In CTRC the receiver is located at top of the tower.Thousands of such heliostats track the sun to direct the beam radiation on the receiver from all sides.Concentration ratio of as high a value as 3000 can be obtained.Theabsorbed energy can be extracted from the receiver and delivered at a temp and pressure suitable for driving turbines for power generation.

Solar energy should be given a chance if we want to protect the environment. We own it to our children, our grandchildren and the generations to come.
