Geo. Features Mostly around the equator Rain Forests cover approximately 6% of
Earth’s land surface There are 3 main layers to the Rain Forest
1. Canopy: Top most layer, 25-45 meters high, home to birds and monkeys.
2. Understory: Middle layer, home to some amphibians and reptiles like snakes and chameleons.
3. Ground: Self explanatory, layer where most insects live. Decomposers of all kinds also call this layer home.
Temperature Wet, tropical climate Temperature rarely goes over 93◦F Humidity is average is between 77-88% Rainfall is more than 100in. a year! Monsoonal areas have periodical dry
seasons Almost all rain forests are near the
equator
Plant Types More than 2/3 of the Earth’s plant species
are found in Tropical Rain Forests Plants live in warm, humid environment that
allows a huge variety of plants rare in more mild climates
Plants are spread out between 3 main layers of the Rain Forest
Plants consist of ferns, broadleaved shrubs, dwarf bombs, carnivores plants, orchids, strangler fig, and others
