A two-day Interact ive Seminar on “ERP

Implementation with Special Reference to PUs & rd thWorkshops” was organized on 3 and 4 Sept. 2015

bringing together all stakeholders. AM(PU), Railway

Board, MD, CRIS, senior officers of IT, HR, Mechanical and

Finance Directorates of Railway Board, as well as COSs,

CMEs, FA&CAOs and CPOs of seven Production Units

participated in this Interactive Seminar. Participants from

Corporates, namely BHEL and L&T also shared their

experiences regarding implementation of Change

Management & ERP in their organizations. A roadmap for

implementing ERP at PUs has been envisioned by the

participants and sent to Board for consideration.An Interdisciplinary seminar on “Enhancing Productivity

th thon IR through IT Applications” was held on 29 & 30

October 2015. During the Seminar, use of present IT

applications on Railways and how productivity on

Railways can be increased through these applications

were deliberated. Detailed deliberations on future of

PRS & ticketing systems on IR indicated the possibility of

ticketing becoming profit centre instead of being a cost

centre. Presentation and discussion on new application

'IPASS' was also held to find out the utility and benefits of

this application on IR. The potential of leveraging 3PL for

internal transport of railway was examined. It emerged

that IR can utilize its internal capacity to transport goods

for internal consumption, thus reducing expenditure on

transport and inventory.

NAIR in association with Asian Institute of Transport

Development, New Delhi conducted 18th International

Programme on “Application of Information and

Communication Technology (ICT) on Railways and the

Financial and Productivity Gains there-from” for

executives of Railways from BIMSTEC and Mekong-Ganga th thCo-operation and allied countries from 5 to 17 October

2015. In all 17 officers from Bangladesh, Bhutan,

Cambodia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka,

Thailand, Vietnam including 2 from Indian Railways

participated in the Programme. Topics covered in this

Course included Introduction to India and Indian

Railways, Future of Railways & need of ICT , Financial

Benefit of ICT Applications, S&T Solutions and ICT, Future

of ICT in IR, Freight Application , IT applications for crew

ACADEMICS

Management, IT in Store & Purchase, Big Data Security &

Recovery, Commercial Applications, Optimization

Software and Applications etc.

There was a general consensus that Railway Cooperation

in BIMSTEC region can be initiated and established by IT

services. Indian Railways through IRCTC & CRIS can

encourage and benefit from it.

Progress of study on 'Rational manpower policy for Gr.

'A' officers on Indian Railways

Study on manpower policy for Gr. 'A' officers was

entrusted to M/s. Deloitte, under the overall guidance of

the Task Force formed by the Railway Board. It undertook

field studies in Southern Railway, East Coast Railway and

South Eastern Railway during August-September 2015.thMember Staff, during his visit to NAIR on 28 September,

2015 reviewed the progress of the study on 'Rational

manpower policy for Gr. 'A' officers of Indian Railways with

M/s. Deloitte. Member Staff gave directives on further

course of action of the study which will be taken by the

Task Force.

A one-week special course on “ Finance for Non-Finance

Officers” ( up to SG level from all departments of IRs ) was

held from 05.10.15 to 09.10.15. This module mainly

focused on working of Railway Finance and Personal

finance as introductory overview. Total 08 officers

attended this course.

One week special course on “Railway working” for the

probationers of Diploma in Public Financial Management

(ICAS & IP&TFAS ) was held at NAIR from 12.10.15 to

16.10.16 at the request of Director, National Institute of

Financial Management, Faridabad. Total fifteen

probationers attended this programme.

Important courses - Advanced Management Programme,

Management Development Program, Gr. 'A' Foundation

Programme (Medical), Foundation Program for Gr. B

officers and Combined Foundation Program for Gr. B and

Rajbhasha officers, Gr. B Induction Program (Stores),

Senior Professional Development Programme for IRMS

(SAG), Safety Course (JAG & Above), IT Application in

Railway and IT security and various Centralized Training

modules.

8th APNRTC meeting held from 8 – 9 October 2015 in

New Delhi, India

The 8th APNRTC (Asia Pacific Network of Rail Training

Centres) meeting hosted by Indian Railways took place in

management on IR through the Knowledge Portal

(www.kportal.indianrailways.gov.in) that is expected to

stimulate knowledge sharing and connection among

experts both inside and outside IR.

Focus on Safety: In view of the special emphasis on

Safety, participants of Advance Management

Programme deliberated on following dimensions of

Safety through group presentations:

i) Safety and Human Resource Management

ii) Collision Avoidance

iii) Safety Improvement in LC Gates

iv) Fire Accidents in train

v) Disaster Management
