Raffles Milano Fashion and Design Institute A new fashion and design school in Milan? Yes, and it is called Raffles Milano. A school with an unconventional spirit and an untraditional teaching method. A school conceived for those who want to look the future straight in the eye. And, above all, a school that has assembled an outstanding team of lecturers, many of whom are prominent names in international style and design.

A school that goes all the way Raffles Milano’s teaching method is inspired on transdisciplinarity and aims at letting students experience the effectiveness of working on authentic projects for real-life clients. Teachers and students are immediately involved in a relationship without barriers. Dialogue, a common effort to search for new solutions, and mutual trust between teachers and students make up the foundation of this process of individual growth and teamwork that trains you to tackle the future. An education that faces the future and prepares students to experience it as a natural evolution of the present.

A school which is already a job Raffles Milano is the school that had never existed, but which companies had been demanding for a long time; focused on doing, as much as on knowing. Projects here have a goal, a context, a stock of resources, a background of previous experiences, a series of reasons to come to life, and, naturally, a series of walls to break down. This is what students take in at every step. The professional world is the very foundation of our teaching programmes. In our Master’s courses, students encounter leading creative personalities in their classrooms and get the chance to work with them on concrete projects.

The power of a network without boundariesRaffles Milano is the link that strengthens the international network of Raffles Group, which was founded more than twenty-five years ago and is currently strongly expanding, with 22 colleges in twelve countries. The choice of Milan reflects the school’s strive for excellence and its deep affinity with a city which has always been acknowledged as the capital of design culture in the world.

Three yearsthat will change your lifeLearning by doing is the underlying principle of Raffles Milano’s three-year courses, a training experience that structures the mind, provides a solid technical background and unleashes a desire to broaden your life horizons.

A dedicated Course Leader For every course (3-year courses or Master’s), students are placed under the supervision of a Course Leader whose task it is to coordinate the study plan, check the continuity of the teaching and teachers, mediate between the class and the Faculty and constantly ensure the best and most efficient learning system for each student.

60 professionals in the classroomFor every three-year coursethe Faculty is composed by almost sixty teachers, carefully selected among the most influential and acknowledged professionals in their discipline. A choir of different voices, ideas, and experiences that constitutes the first “professional” showcase for each one of our students when they complete their studies.

FSDThe fashion system is a complex and unpredictable territory, where a sense of the classical encounters the most extreme experimentation. There are no ready-made recipes to emerge, only a strong work ethic and the desire to learn and measure oneself with the outside world. There are only extremely keen eyes to train, eyes that are capable of capturing the smallest detail and know traditional sartorial methods yet are not afraid of proposing an irreverent elegance.

Course leader / Cristina OrtizAfter her diploma at the prestigious École de la chambre syndicale de la couture in Paris, Cristina Ortiz embarked on a career that brought her to the very top of big international maisons. Creative Director of Prada Woman until 1997, she then became the official designer of Maison Lanvin. Creative Director of Brioni’s womenswear line until 2008, she arrived in Ferragamo to restore the brand’s splendour and transform it into a contemporary brand with a strong identity. Today a consultant for several fashion brands, Ortiz also designs her own line of jewellery.

INDTo design is to transform the world, from the simplest things to the most complex. Design is not just a discipline that teaches us how to invent and improve the material side of life: it is also an ideal model that teaches us how things both great and small are bound together by invisible threads. It is the art of change, responsibility and commitment.

PRDWithout design the world would be poorer and more tiring. The discipline of design can in fact be defined as pervasive intelligence that invites us to find new meanings and new solutions by educating people to generate value and values for the world around them. Design has always been a powerful driver of social, aesthetic and intellectual progress.
