Kite Flying Activity Organized by Departmentof Physical Education

Subhartipuram: Depart-ment of Physical EducationSubharti Organization or-ganized a Kite Flying com-petition on 13th January,2017 in its premises. It wasa great experience for bothstudents as well as teach-ers, who participated in thecompetition with enthusi-asm. With kites flying high inthe clear sky, it was a greatsight to watch & participantsand audince enjoyed everybit of it. The competitioncontinued for about an hourand ended with the win ofAnubhav band ShivamBaliyan group. The 2nd & 3rdplace was backed by Aditya,Ishan group & Prachi, Van-dana group respectively.The custom of flying kites isassociated with MakarSankranti. People celebratethe occasion by flying kites,

from their rooftops.Unlike other Hindu festivalswhich follow the lunar mo-tion, Makar Sankranti fol-lows the movement of thesun. It marks the beginningof the sun’s transition intothe zodiac of Capricorn( M a k a r = C a p r i c o r n ,Sankranti= transition). Thismakes it the only festival tofall on a fixed date everyyear January 14th.It is a fes-tive day all over India. Eachregion celebrates its ownlocal form of this festival. Inthe western parts of India itis called the “MakarSankranti”.This is the daywinter officially ends andspring begins – a transitionsymbolic of discarding theprevious season’s bad andthe beginning of a fresh newseason.

New study explains how low-dose aspirin may prevent cancer

New research conducted bya team of scientists fromOregon Health and ScienceUniversity (OHSU) in collab-oration with Oregon StateUniversity (OSU) in theU.S., reinforces the ideathat low-dose aspirin intakemay help stop cancer andhinder cancer cells fromproliferating. Additionally,the research also explainsthe mechanism by which asmall dose of aspirin mayindeed inhibit cancer cellproliferation and metastasis.Cancer is one of the leadingcauses of death in theworld, according to theWorld Health Organization(WHO). Its prevalence ispredicted to increase in thenext few years.In 2012, can-cer accounted for 8.2 million

deaths worldwide.In terms of prevention, theCenters for Disease Controland Prevention (CDC) recommend for making

healthy lifestyle and dietarychoices such as avoidingtobacco and alcohol as well as staying with physicallyactive and eating plenty offruits and vegetables. Newresearch reinforces the ideathat low-dose aspirin intake

may also help to preventcancer.This is the first time that astudy has shown the abilityof platelets to regulate the-expression of c-MYC in cancer cells. The researchers note thatalmost a third of colon can-cer patients and 42% of pa-tient with pancreatic cancerhad over expression of c-MYC oncorprotein.They also find that the im-pact of aspirin has on bloodplatelets is just as effectivein high doses as it is at lowones. The World Book Fair 2017which was held from Janu-ary 7-15 at Pragati Maidanin New Delhi attractedgreater footfall this year aspeople from different statesattended it. The 44th editionof the book fair was inaugu-rated by Minister of State forHuman Resource Develop-ment (Higher Education)Mahendra Nath Pandey. The leading publishers fromIndia and abroad also show-case the best of their titlesat the fair. Thisworkshop is designed tolead the students from storyidea generation to editingshort film (Pre to Post pro-duction). By the end ofworkshop, students will betrained to prepare and shoottheir own short film all ofwhich are screened and re-viewed by the faculty. In the first part of the work-shop Mr. Sanjay Shrivastav(Assistant Professor,GGSIPU) explained thetechniques of screen writingand direction to the stu-dents.
