RACE TO INNOVATION

Our dependence on wireless technology.

mobile phones keep us connected with the worldand are entertainment gadgets.

Wireless technology has evolved -

from 1G to 2.5G

and then from 3G to 5G.

The world of telecommunications has seen a numberof improvements along with improved performancewith every passing day.

 WHAT IS 1G ?

In 1G, Narrow band analogue wireless network is used, with

this we can have the voice calls and can send text messages. These services are provided with circuit switching.

 WHAT IS 2G ?

Second Generation (2G) wireless cellular mobile services was a

step ahead of First Generation( 1G) services by providing thefacility of short message service(SMS) unlike 1G that had itsprime focus on voice communication.

In case of 2G Narrow Band Wireless Digital Network is used. It

brings more clarity to the conversation and both these circuit-switching model.

2G has the facility of roaming and the data facility of (GeneralPacket Radio Service) GPRS

WHAT IS 4G TECHNOLOGY

Fourth generation of cellular wireless standards

Successor to 3G and 2G families of standards

4G Technology - an extension in the 3G technology with

more bandwidth and services offers in the 3G.

very high data transfer rates.

very speedy wireless internet access to not only stationaryusers but also to the mobile users.

trounce the deficiencies of 3G technology in terms of speed and quality

NETWORK=4G….

For some network to be able to call itself 4G needsto meet some criteria, such as download data rate of 100 Mbps for high mobile environments, IP network,

varying channel bandwidth from 5 MHz to 20 MHz,1Gbps of data rate in stationery environments.

Page 14: race to innovation: evolution of telecommunication

WHY DO WE MOVE TOWARDS 4G ?   Limitation to meet expectations of applications like

multimedia, full motion video, wirelessteleconferencing : Wider Bandwidth

Difficult to move and interoperate due to differentstandards hampering global mobility and serviceportability

Primarily Cellular (WAN) with distinct LANs’; need anew integrated network

Limitations in applying recent advances in spectrallymore efficient modulation schemes

Need all digital network to fully utilize IP andconverged video and data

Both of them provide fast data transfers, but one of them does that with higher speed. That is the 4Gtechnology.

2Mbps of data transfer for 3G technology and

100Mbps for 4G technology, for downlink the 3G isusing multiple access techniques

4G is using OFDMA (Orthogonal Frequency DivisionMultiple Access), for the uplink 3G is using CDMA
