Tara Gill Nalencz TEMPLE LAW PROGRAM Tara Gill Nalencz spoke to the Temple University Beasley School of Law State Court Honors Interns in February 2016 in a program called “Anatomy of a Civil Case.” e session focused on trial preparation and presentation with an emphasis on the use of technology. Tara co- presented the session with Andrew Duffy of Saltz Mongeluzzi Barrett & Bendesky, P.C. Tara was invited by President Judge Sheila Woods-Skipper and Judge Annette M. Rizzo (Ret.) to participate in the presentation. Tara was assisted by Barry Pace, the firm’s Litigation Support Manager. Barry demonstrated the firm’s technological approach to cases and presentations. Tara is a partner in our Philadelphia office. She focuses her practice on the defense of catastrophic loss matters. Her caseload regularly includes cases involving paraplegia, quadriplegia, traumatic brain injury, severe burns, death and multi-million dollar property damage. She is fluent in Spanish and her practice also includes international matters, such as defending hotel owners and operators in actions where the underlying accident took place outside the United States. Tara has developed strategies for the use of social media in litigation and has presented several times on related topics. She has also become skilled in e-Discovery in both the role of first level collection and review, as well project management. Tara obtained her J.D. from the Temple University School of Law in 2004. She earned her Master of Arts degree in Spanish Literature in 2001 from Pennsylvania State University and her B.A. in 1999 from Dickinson College. PHILADELPHIA OFFICEKimberly A. House has rejoined our Philadelphia office as an associate. Kim worked previously with Rawle & Henderson LLP in 2012 and 2013 and has returned again to work with the firm’s Catastrophic Loss Group. Upon graduating law school from Wake Forest, Kim worked at a boutique construction litigation and products liability firm in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. WORKERS’ COMPENSATION SEMINARSClaudio J. DiPaolo, chair of the Workers’ Compensation Section, presented a seminar on “Retaliatory Discharge Under the Pennsylvania Workers’ Compensation Act” to claims professionals and risk managers in Phoenix, Arizona, on February 11, 2016. His presentation examined the effect of employee termination on workers’ compensation benefits.
Claudio DiPaolo has focused his practice in the area of workers’ compensation for over 15 years. He has defended workers’ compensation claims on behalf of self-insured corporations, insurance carriers, and various political entities. Claudio began his career with an appointment to the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry as an opinion writer, during which he drafted administrative law decisions involving adjudicated workers’ compensation matters. In this capacity, he also assisted in the editing of the treatise, Pennsylvania Workers’ Compensation: Practice and Procedure. He has given presentations to various groups and clients throughout the country in regard to establishing workplace safety programs, reducing workers’ compensation costs, compliance with federal and state employment laws, and effective claims handling. Claudio studied Art History in Rome, Italy, and Political Science at Duquesne University. He earned his J.D. degree from the Delaware campus of the Widener University School of Law in 1993. Zach was the moderator of a panel of insurance industry experts for the session “Loss Mitigation of High Value Workers’ Compensation Claims.” The panel discussed strategies for employers, self-insureds, insurance companies and third party administrators to maximize loss-control strategies for high value claims. In addition, the panel explained how to identify potential high value claims, cost drivers, ineffective prescription management, return to work programs, vocational rehabilitation, settlement strategy and hidden Medicare Set-Aside costs.
Zach is a Vice-Chair for the ABA TIPS Workers’ Compensation and Employers’ Liability Law Committee for 2015-2016. He focuses his practice on the defense of insurance carriers, self-insured entities and third-party administrators against workers’ compensation claims in Pennsylvania. Kim earned her J.D. from Wake Forest School of Law in 2008. She was a Student Trial Bar Member and co-chaired the Zeliff Trial Competition in 2008. She earned her B.A., cum laude, in Political Science from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 2004.
Upon graduating law school from Wake Forest, Kim worked at a boutique construction litigation and products liability firm in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. During that time, she represented architects, engineers and manufacturers of construction materials in all phases of litigation from pleadings to discovery to trial and appeal.
Kim is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, North Carolina and South Carolina.
