MEDITACIÓN EVANGELICO @LPI

"'Vete y ya no vuelvas a pecar'." (Juan 8:11).

“...WITH GOD, ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE!” MATT 19:26

THE HISTORY OF THE BLUE MASS

The Blue Mass dates back to 1934 when a Catholic Priest from the Archdiocese of Bal#more, Maryland, organized the Catholic Police and Firemen’s Society while

sta#oned at St. Patrick Church in Washington, D.C. Over 1,000 police and firefighters, dressed in their blue uniforms, a\ended that first Blue Mass, which was celebrated

on September 29, 1934. This very special tradi#on of showing gra#tude to all emergency responders and their families in this way has con#nued throughout the United States.

Today this Mass honors those currently serving as emergency responders as well as those who have died in the line of duty and brings greater awareness of those who

serve us so faithfully, o"en placing others’ lives and safety above their own. Our lives are gi"s from God, given to us that we might in turn give our lives in service to Him and

to others. Those who have dedicated their lives in service as emergency responders are living out this truth, and we gather today to celebrate them. We are pleased that

you joined us for the Blue Mass at St. Helen of the Cross Roman Catholic Church.

3RD ANNUAL BLUE MASS HONORING OUR FIRST RESPONDERS

Please join us in honoring and celebra#ng all our first responders for their service at the 4:15 Mass on Saturday April 27, 2019. All first responders, law enforcement, fire fighters, dispatching personnel, correc#ons officers, deten#on officers, medics

and border security personnel are invited to a\end in uniform, special reserved sea#ng will be provided. We as a community will also be invited to again par#cipate in the Shield a Badge with Prayer Program. You will have an opportunity to register to pray throughout the year for an officer with the Casa Grande Police Department.

A list, with badge numbers only, will be provided along with a promise card. More informa#on concerning the program and the Blue Mass will be forth coming.

WHY DO WE DO THAT? CATHOLIC TRADITIONS EXPLAINED @LPI

QUESTION: Lent always seems to help me renew my relaQonship with God and strengthen my religious pracQce. Do you have any suggesQons as to what I could do to achieve that the rest of the year? ANSWER: The obvious answer may seem to be to do whatever you do dur-ing Lent all year-round. But part of the power of Lent is that we focus as a community on renewing our faith and preparing for Easter. Our Lenten prac#ces have a purpose and a goal. Therein lies the secret. When we focus our efforts on one virtue, try to change one bad habit, or seek to deepen our understanding of one aspect of faith, we focus our efforts and give our full a\en-#on to what we are trying to accomplish. We tend to be more successful achieving our goals. More importantly, it has a ripple effect in our lives: one thing changes or is added to the spiritual mix of our lives and many aspects are changed. All too o"en, we leave our spiritual growth to chance and the prac#ce of faith to habit, and then wonder why we have no sense of growth or progress. Think of it in terms of exercise. We walk, li" weights, and bend and stretch to a\ain the maximum benefit from what we do. In addi#on, to keep those benefits, we eat healthful food and get enough vitamins and rest. Spirituality requires the same kind of a\en#on: we pray, fast, read the Bible, receive sacraments, and do charitable work to maximize the benefits of prac#cing faith. Keeping Lent year-round keeps us in spiritual shape!

CATHOLIC DAUGHTERS OF THE AMERICAS Mee#ngs are every 2nd Sun at 10:30 am in the parish hall.

GOSPEL MEDITATION @LPI "The scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman who had been caught in adultery and made her stand in the middle." The episode of the woman caught in adultery is a powerful story. We have perhaps all felt as the woman has at some point in our lives, surrounded by those who would condemn us. The beauty of Christ's mercy at the end is clear...and a welcome relief as we all struggle to be good and holy people. But have we ever imagined ourselves on the edge of the circle? Have we pictured ourselves in the sea of dusty robes? Perhaps, we hope, we're hovering at the edge of the circle of judgment. But we've all been there. How easy it is to be righteous when someone else's reputa#on is at stake. When the small child is ac#ng up in the grocery store or on the plane. When another company has a scandal break or a major error sets back their profits. Could it be easy to pick up the stone and feel its weight and he" in our hands? Because if we've got a stone in our hands, our own righteous category is clear. Our judgment is our insurance that we won't be on the receiving end of the cri#cism. If we can point out a wrong, surely we are firmly in the right. "'Let the one among you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her'... they went away one by one." This Lent, not only are we invited to receive God's mercy, but to show God's mercy. As the season begins to wind to a close, consider those in your life you tend to judge the most harshly. What is one concrete way you can drop your stone?

CORRESPONSABILIDAD DIARIA @LPI

- Tracy Earl Welliver, MTS
