5% Higher Production
With up to 700 spin boxes of the latest generation, the R 66 is the longest and most productive rotor spinning machine in the world.
New S 66 spin box for best spinning stability
The new S 66 spin box is a further development of the S 60 spin box renowned for better spinning stability and therefore fewer ends down. Additional optimisation improves flexibility and ergonomics.
Proven productivity advantage by better spinning technology
Direct comparison with other machine manufacturers world-wide also proves that yarn produced on the R 60 and R 66 has higher strength. Many spinning mills exploit this by increas-ing the speed or reducing the yarn twist. The productivity of the R 66 thus increases by at least 5%.

Intelligent lot change increases productivity
An efficient lot change reduces production losses even before and during changeover. Therefore production planning needs to be coordinated intelligently with the current state of production.
The R 66 knows the state of production on its spinning units. Based on this information the new R 66 machine software provides a full construction kit for individual optimi-sation of lot changes using modules for:
• Changeover mode: How should the lot run out and what is to be changed?
• Start mode: When should the changeover be introduced?

Sample lots easy to insert
Sample lots as a number of small packages out of a running lot are possible. They can be integrated directly into cur-rent production with no loss of productivity. Then, as required, current production is seamlessly resumed or a very fast runout is initiated.
Intelligent scheduling avoids idling
Lot changes on the R 66 can be started immediately. However, if production is still required, the machine can indepen-dently determine how much time is still needed. Thus, the R 66 can also be programmed to a target time at which the lot is expected to run out. This allows accurate planning so that at this time everything is ready for the changeover and the new lot. It avoids downtime and waiting time.

Better Yarn QualityDecisive benefits through improved spinning technology
TWISTunit** for exact position
The unique design of the TWISTunit offers huge advantages for exact distance between rotor and nozzle. This is prerequisite for high constant quality and spinning stability. The fixation of the nozzle in the CHANNELinsert by a bayonet is secure and ex-act. The whole TWISTunit is pulled by the spinning vacuum from outside to rotor into its defined posi-tion. All elements can be taken apart fast, simply and without any tools.
Better yarn quality by automatic centring of rotor and nozzle
Every spin box carries out an automatic centring operation between rotor and take-off nozzle each time the spinning unit is closed. This is also maintained when a spinning unit is replaced. Thanks to the centring element between rotor bearing and the swivelling cover with take-off nozzle and rotor cover, the vari-ation from spinning position to spinning position is reduced. The result: better yarn quality.
Up to 1 cN/tex higher strength and less imperfections
The R 66 operates with a significantly lower spin-ning tension. This is made possible by the new geometry of the spin box without take-off tube.
The spinning process is far more stable and the yarn strength higher. This results in fewer weak points and fewer imperfections in the yarn.

The “cool nozzle” technology with optimised ma-terial selection and a larger holder of the take-off nozzle ensures considerably better heat dissipa-tion. The temperature of the take-off nozzle is thus around 10°C lower than with other available technologies. This benefits not only spinners of yarns from man-made fibrers but also when spin-ning at high delivery speed.

Lower Energy ConsumptionUp to 10% savings
R 66 DE ECOrized saves 10%
The ECOrized concept of R 66 DE consists of 2 main elements.
Central drives ECOrized
Energy saving main drives have been developed in col-laboration with a leading European motor manufacturer. Those motors reduce the energy consumption of the R 66 by about 5%.
Suction from both machine ends saves up to 30%
Extensive analysis of the air flow showed the little influ-ence of the length to energy consumption due to the ad-vantageous shape of the R 66 suction channel for short machines. At longer machines the losses and differences in spinning suction increase. The suction of R 66 DE from both machine ends cuts the length in half and thus saves up to 30% in suction power.
This concept, which is proven also in Rieter compact spinning machines, saves in long rotor spinning ma-chines up to 6% of energy consumption.
In the R 66 DE both effects are combined, resulting in a saving of up to 10% of energy consumption.

Minimal heating of the spinning unit
The heat generated by the spinning process in the spin-ning unit is effi ciently led by the air fl ow to the main suction channel. The greatest sources of heat generation, the drives and the power electronics, are located centrally in the head and end stock. This allows an effi cient and cost-eff ective heat removal from the machine. The infl u-ence on the spinning climate at the spinning position is minimised. The waxing unit and the packages stay com-pletely unaff ected by the heat development. The humidity loss in the yarn on the packages remains low.

measurement of diff erential pressure (Δp) at the fi lter unit of the R 66 initiates the automatic cleaning cycles. Thereby it maintains the negative pressure for spin-ning at a constant low level while consuming a minimal amount of energy. The R 66 version longer than 600 positions has energy saving suction devices from both machine ends. This secures minimal losses in the suc-tion channel by halving the length.

Economic AutomationFast robots increase the efficiency
The robots of the R 66 repair yarn breaks and carry out package changes. These two operations run parallel and independently from each other. A cycle requires not more than 20 seconds for the yarn piecing including rotor cleaning, and doffing. The high efficiency and preci-sion of the robots ensure highest machine performance and production.
For maintenance purposes, each robot has its own position that is easily accessible from all sides, sepa-rated from the spinning units. The spinning process is consequently not affected at all during the maintenance operation as the other robots serve the whole machine at full production.
Maintenance at full production
Easy setting of the yarn piecing parameters
The Rieter eXpert system makes available to all users the experience gained by Rieter over decades, including the constant improvements in piecing technology.
For an initial setting, it is sufficient to define the raw material on the robot panel. The controls thereby find suitable settings for the remaining five param-eters, enabling even less experienced operators to set the piecing quickly and easily.

Ideal Package Build-UpFull flexibility to create optimum packages
The new electro mechanical yarn traverse (EMYT) offers full flexibility to adapt all winding parameters electronically. The size of the package can be optimised for transportation by adapting the winding width and winding length. Opti-mised package density is possible by setting winding tension and edge displacement.
The intelligent control of the EMYT automatically adapts the traverse motion to the delivery speed in order to create best package flanges.
Ideal equipment for high density packages as standard
The sophisticated winding system of the R 66 makes it possible to achieve extremely soft or hard packages. An adjustable pneumatic damping element secures uniform winding pressure for the whole package even at high density (e.g. for viscose).
Package format
The R 66 is the only fully automatic rotor spinning machine offering cylindrical as well as conical packages up to 4°20. Pneumatic damping

The BYpass** infl uences the trash removal for best spinning stability
BYpass open – Maximum trash removal BYpass half open – Medium trash removal BYpass closed – Minimum trash removal
New CHANNELpass** to adopt to fi bre types
Best spinning results are achievable with optimum adaption of fi bre guiding to the application. The S 66 spin box includes a unique exchangeable CHANNELpass. This part infl uences the pass-over of the fi bres from the opening roller to the fi bre channel.
The CHANNELinserts with / without SPEEDpass** to optimise the fi bre fl ow
SPEEDpass
The optional SPEEDpass opening in the channel insert is a direct connection of the spinning vacuum in the rotor chamber to the fi bre channel. The SPEEDpass thus is infl uencing the transport air in the fi bre channel. More transport air is advantageous to transport the bigger fi bre mass for coarse yarn counts or for man-made fi bres. The SPEEDpass saves energy, because the increased airfl ow is achieved without the need for an increased suction pressure.

R 66 VARIOspin slub yarn with Amsler E-Profi
Both machine sides can be optionally operated com-pletely independently of each other*. Lots with differ-ent yarn counts, raw materials and settings are clearly separated from each other by separate transport belts. A lot change or maintenance procedures can be carried out on both sides independently. The spinning com-ponents can be simply and clearly organised for each machine side.
Each side has its own tube loader which prevents mix-up of the tube colour and increases the speed at which the tubes are fed. In addition, this option makes available double the quantity of tubes.
*Option
The individually-driven feed rollers can be utilised for the production of fashionable slub yarns.
The VARIOspin* package has been jointly developed with the fancy yarn specialist Amsler Tex. Their know-how ena-bles the R 66 to produce slub yarns with especially distinc-tive and symmetrical effects. The system can produce up to 2.3 slubs per metre of yarn.
Ideal for automated package removal
Thanks to a jointly defined interface all important suppliers of package transport systems are able to integrate R 66 into their systems. The horizontal position of package belt is ideally suitable to handover the packages. The clear separation of left and right machine sides allows a clear and secure control even with two lots on one machine.
The package lift of the R 66 can furthermore be used as a backup for package removal in case of transport system error in order to prevent a spinning standstill.

Advantages in Downstream ProcessingThe better quality pays off in knitting and weaving
Piecing quality with AEROpiecing® technology sets standards
The entire yarn piecing process takes place at constant rotor speed. The exactly, prepared yarn end is thereby rapidly guided into the rotor groove. The sliver end has already been prepared by means of the feed drive immediately following the thread break. Now the individually-driven feed motor precisely supplies the necessary amount of fibres to produce the piecing. This process creates exactly replicable piecings that are yarn-like in appearance and strength.
Considerably fewer downtimes in subsequent processes
Strength tests with the TENSOJET nicely show the advantages of the Com4®rotor yarn from Rieter: 85% fewer yarn places with minimal strength and elongation result in 85% fewer potential disruptions in downstream processing in warping, sizing and weaving.

VARIOclean rotor cleaning guarantees consistent yarn quality
The combination of VARIOclean and yarn-like piecings with AEROpiecing® guarantees uniform yarn quality and optimal running behaviour in downstream processing.
Customers regularly report fewer ends down in warping and up to 50% fewer weft breaks in weaving with the Com4®rotor yarn.
Better running behaviour of the Com4®rotor yarn convinces in direct comparison
Com4®rotor yarn causes less ends down in downstream processing than other rotor yarns.
The VARIOclean unit in the robot ef-ficiently cleans the rotor and the rotor groove before each individual piecing operation. It works with a combination of mechanical scrapers and air pres-sure. A cleaned groove saves additional piecings. This ensures consistently high quality during the entire package running time and minimises problems in knitting and weaving.
The R 66 produces consistently good qual-ity because it starts with a cleaned rotor groove after every piecing operation.

Machine Concept for Cost-Saving OperationThe small details that help to make daily savings
The machine concept of the R 66 is based on clear design, robust construction and easy access. Customers confirm this advantage.
All spinning elements in the new, optimised S 66 spin box can be exchanged without tools.
In particular, the new TWISTunit consisting of noz-zle, channel insert and TWISTstop can be manually replaced in one movement in a few seconds. This allows an especially fast lot change.
Simple operation on machine display
The innovative graphic touch screen display is clearly designed and can be intuitively operated. Easy to under-stand graphics and modern aids such as fast access via “favourite keys” support the operator. Three separate, secured access levels protect against unauthorised access.
For a quick documentation, the data shown can be saved on a USB stick.

Clear and robust machine concept
Faster lot change without tools**
The R 66 has a number of further, seemingly unspectacu-lar functions which simplify the day-to-day operation. Here are some examples:
• Optimised operator walking distance: always when an intervention by the operator is necessary, this is rec-ognisable from a distance by means of clearly visible signal lamps at both ends of the machine, on the sec-tions as well as on the yarn clearer.
• Reduction of operator walking distances by up to 100 m: to carry out setting or maintenance work on the robot, it can simply be called to the end of the machine at the push of a button.
• Robot instead of operator: to change spinning elements, all spin boxes must be opened. This task can be taken over by the robots.

Rieter . Rotor Spinning Machine R 66
Large cans compactly accommodated
By the gauge of 245 mm, the R 66 pro-vides space for cans with a diameter of 470 mm (18½˝), arranged in 2 rows to save space. The distance from machine to machine must therefore be no greater than 3.8 m and even allows a row of reserve cans to be positioned. Even with larger can diameters, the arrangement of the cans remains space-saving.
Further advantage: the spin boxes are quickly and directly accessible without laborious moving of cans.
Easier access for maintenance
During the development of the R 66, special attention was paid to accessibility of the machine components. Drives and electronic components are located centrally. As with the spinning elements, the whole spinning unit is also replaceable without using tools.
New step in operator friendlinessThe new spin box S 66 is easy to open. It thus saves operator time. Consequently, longer R 66 machines can be operated without additional personnel.
Cost saving central drives The central drives of the R 66 require far less maintenance in the long term than drive systems with many smaller motors, aprons and electronic components on every spinning unit. The necessary maintenance is concentrated on very few areas.
