Caesar died despite MULTIPLE WARNINGS that something bad will happen to him. Soothsayer’s warning Bad omens (people on fire, lion in the Capitol) Calpurnia’s dream More bad omens (no heart in the sacrificial animal,

raining fire, corpses rising from their graves) Artimedorus’ petition warning him of the plot—

although this letter will never be received, it is Caesar’s fault!

We are half-way through the play. Now that Caesar is dead, no one directly controls

Rome. Power could shift to the Murderers of Caesar—Brutus,

Cassius, Casca, Decius, Metallus, Trebonius, etc.

Or

Power could shift to Octavius, the next person in line—the only problem is that Octavius is too young to directly take control of Rome.

Antony’s Speech:

Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears;

I come to bury Caesar, not to praise him.

The evil that men do lives after them;

The good is often buried with their bones
