WHAT ARE THE TWO TYPES OF CHARACTER?

A character is a person, or sometimes even an animal, who takes part in the action of a short story

There are two ways to find out what a character is like:

1) Direct: The author comes right out and tells the reader what a certain character is like

2) Indirect: The author gives information and lets the reader draw their own conclusions regarding the character (most effective way to learn about a character)

WHAT IS DIRECT CHARACTERIZATION?

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PHYSICAL AND NON-PHYSICAL PLACE?

The physical environment, including weather conditions, may be specifically described.

The nonphysical environment includes cultural influences such as education, social standing, economic class, and religious belief. These may be revealed by physical properties in the scene or through the characters' dialogue, thoughts, statements, and behaviors.

NAME 5 TYPES OF CONFLICT

Person vs. Self: this is a fight that a person goes through when faced with a moral or ethical problem Person vs. Person: this is the fight

between two people or two groups of people Person vs. Society: the problems a person

faces when trying to overcome society’s rules

Person vs. Nature: this is a battle with the environment a character finds themselves struggling with

Person vs. Supernatural: the battles against gods or ghosts
