Quito s biodiversity
• The Metropolitan District of Quito includes 25 protected areas, 23 of which are protected forests and 2 which are ecological reserves.
• Within its territory, 542 bird species have been recorded, which has earned the district the recognition of Important Bird Areas (IBA), a Conservation International category, at both the Mashpi-Guaycuyacu-Sahuangal reserve and the Pachijal watershed reserve.
