Introduction

To commemorate the 2016 National Park Service Centennial celebration, Olde America Antiques has created a series of unique new fabric products for the National Park Service.

Susan Davis, a long time quilter with a background in graphic design, has created a series of original quilt block designs to pay tribute to the NPS Centennial (pages 4 and 5). This series of NPS-themed blocks is based on traditional quilt “star designs.” These are the first quilt blocks designed specifically for the National Park Service. Each quilt block is unique with a distinct color combination and matching border. The name of the park and the date it was established is part of the design. These blocks show an influence of the American Arts and Crafts Movement from the period when the National Park Service was established.

Susan also created single quilt block designs of a National Park Service Centennial Map, NPS Collage, NPS Large Letter and NPS Postcard Wreath (pages 2 and 3). These quilt blocks are new to the market and can be ordered in different sizes - see pages 6 and 7 for details listed under the Wholesale Product and Price Guide.

Susan and Jack Davis established Olde America Antiques in 2006, a fine-art print-ing company specializing in printing vintage images of national parks and monuments on cloth for quilters. Olde America Antiques was one of the first companies to produce genuine 8-color giclee prints on cloth. Giclee (zhee-CLAY) is a recently developed pro-cess that utilizes high resolution digital scanning and sophisticated inkjet technology to reproduce detailed, accurate images and artwork. The inks used are archival and longer lasting than prints made by traditional printing methods.

National Park Service Centennial Products

The quilt block above is a Collage entitled National Park Service Centennial 1916-2016, and includes unique designs for 52 different

areas managed by the National Park Service. The medallion in the middle is a unique “star

design” for the National Park Service. The text at the bottom of this block states “For the Benefit and Enjoyment of the People.” The “star designs” of the different National Park Service areas are arranged in alphabetical order.

The block at right is an individual “star design” created for the National Park Service Centennial, and is based on the traditional NPS colors.

Quilts, wall hangings, tote bags, pillows and other quilt-related items made from these blocks will become historical hand-crafted works of the 2016 Centennial of the National Park Service.

The quilt block at left is an original Large Letter Postcard design. This block is based on the Art Deco style of large letter postcards

from the 1930s. Images of different national parks and monuments are placed within the letters. Post-cards from this period were referred to as “linens” because the paper used to make them had a high rag content. Large letter postcards are very popular and collectible.

This quilt block is an original “Postcard Wreath” design. The block is based on a vintage postcard wreath from the early 20th

century. Vintage postcards of national parks and monuments are used. The subtitle text is a quote from the naturalist John Muir, “The mountains are calling....“

This fabric block is a “Collectible Pin Map” showing 57 areas managed by the National Park Service in the contiguous United States.

The map dates to 1895 and predates the modern road and highway systems. A quilted wall hanging of this map is an attractive way to display collectible pins and buttons of NPS locations.

All blocks are created by Olde America An-tiques owner Susan Davis, in recognition of the 2016 National Park Service Centennial celebration.

blocks created exclusively for the National Park Service. Each block is based on colors inspired by the palettes indigenous to each National Park.

The blocks are based on traditional American quilt designs, and are created and manufactured in the United States.

Postcards are the quintessential souvenir of the National Parks. To carry on that tra-dition, we are introducing two postcard

These modern 4x6” cardstock postcards were made to honor the “Golden Age of Postcards” of 1916 when the National Park Service was founded.

The postcards are available on a limited basis. Wholesale price of $0.20 per card, ordered in mul-tiples of 50 for $10.00.
