• Plunge into the study of an author by examining a collection of his or her books. Note the craft moves that the author makes and the curriculum possibilities that can be extracted from the study. Sum up your findings with “The Important Thing about (Author) Is…”

• Try on one of the craft moves that you noticed your author using in his or her books. Find a piece in your writing notebook that you can apply the strategy to see how it works.

• Select a seed idea and compose a draft.
