Sentence Punctuation Patterns Title: “Opener/ Interrupter/ Closer”

Consider this analogy.

– ESSENTIAL MEANING - Visualize… a hot fudge sundae with whipped cream and a cherry on top! The whipped cream and cherry are NECESSARY for the total hot fudge sundae experience.

– NON-ESSENTIAL MEANING - Visualize… a hot fudge sundae with whipped cream and a cherry on top. The whipped cream and cherry are NOT NECESSARY for the sundae experience. It’s all about the hot fudge. Some whip cream and a cherry might be used, but they are not necessary for the experience.

• Process of elimination. Consider what you know and cross out every answer that is incorrect. Read closely and make an educated decision on the remaining answers.
