Tool Flyouts:
To select a tool:
• Click it in the Tools Toolbar; or • Press the tool’s keyboard shortcut (for example, press X to select the Eraser tool)
To rearrange the tools: • With the Customize dialog displayed (do this by choosing View > Customize), drag a tool to its new toolbar location.

Toolbars Overview - (Default Configurations)
To display or hide a toolbar: • Choose View > Toolbars, and then select the toolbar name; or

Automation and Customization
Basic Scripting 1. Plan your steps precisely — write them down if
necessary.
2. On the Script toolbar, click Start .
3. Perform the actions that comprise the script.
4. On the Script toolbar, click Save .
5. In the Save As dialog that appears, assign your script
a name and folder location.
Run a Script on Multiple Files 1. Using the Paint Shop Pro Browser, navigate to the
folder containing your images, and then select the ones
you'll be processing.
2. Choose File > Batch > Process. In the Batch Process
dialog, note that the images you chose are listed in the
dialog's File name field.
3. In the dialog's Script section, click Browse, navigate to
the folder containing the script you wish to run, and
select the script.
4. In the dialog's Save Mode section, choose an option.
5. Click Start to begin applying the script to each image.
Create a Tool Preset 1. Select the tool.
2. Set the desired options in the Tool Palette.
3. Click the Presets drop-down button.
4. Click the Save Presets button .
5. In the Save Presets dialog, assign a name and click
OK.
Create a Dialog Preset 1. Open the dialog.
2. Make dialog settings, but do not close the dialog.
3. Click the dialog’s Save button .
4. In the Save Presets dialog, assign a name and click
OK.
Rename Multiple Files Simultaneously 1. *Optional: Create a separate folder for the files to be
renamed.
2. Choose File > Batch > Rename.
3. In the Batch Rename dialog, navigate to the folder
containing the images.
4. Click Modify. In the Modify dialog, choose your
rename options. Click OK to return to the Batch
Rename dialog.
5. To launch the renaming process, click Select All.
Create a Custom Toolbar 1. Choose View > Customize.
2. In the Customize dialog, select the Toolbars tab.
3. Click New. In the Toolbar Name dialog, enter a name
for the new toolbar, and then click OK. The new,
empty toolbar appears on the workspace. You may
want to move it above or to the side of the Customize
dialog.
4. In the Customize dialog, select the Commands tab.
5. Under Categories on the left side, select a Menu. Its
items appear under Commands on the right side.
6. Drag the icons of the desired commands into the new
toolbar.
7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 until your custom toolbar
contains all the desired commands. Click Close to
close the Customize dialog.
Save a Workspace 1. Set up your current workspace as desired.
2. Choose File > Workspace > Save.
3. *Optional: In the Save Workspace dialog, click Edit
Paths to save this workspace in a location other than
the default.
4. In the New Workspace Name field, enter a name for
the new workspace and then click Save.
Load a Workspace 1. Choose File > Workspace > Load.
2. *Optional: If the desired workspace is not listed in the
current path, click Edit Paths and then navigate to the
folder where it resides.
3. In the Load Workspace dialog, select the desired
workspace and then click Load.

Basic Image Editing – Part I
Cropping an Image 1. From the Tools toolbar, select the Crop tool .
2. Define the crop rectangle by clicking and dragging the
tool, or by using the Tool Options palette’s
Height/Width/Left/Top/Right/Bottom fields, or by
choosing an option in the Presets drop-down.
3. When the crop rectangle encompasses the desired
image area, click Apply in the Tool Options bar, or
double-click inside the crop rectangle.
Rotating an Image • To rotate an image 90 degrees, choose Image >
Rotate, and then choose either Rotate Clockwise 90,
or Rotate Counter-clockwise 90.
• To rotate to any degree, choose Image > Rotate >
Free Rotate, and then use the options in the Free
Rotate dialog.
• If the image is promoted to a full (Raster) layer you
can also rotate it using the Deform tool . Refer to
the Editing Images chapter in the User Guide or Help
system for more information.
• To rotate vector objects, select them via the Object
Selection tool and then use the rotation handle.
Refer to the Drawing and Editing Objects chapter in
the User Guide and Help system for more information.
Resizing an Image 1. Choose Image > Resize.
2. *Optional: In the Pixel Dimensions section, choose
Percent or Pixels in the drop down, and then enter the
new Width and Height.
3. *Optional: In the Print Size section, choose Inches or
Centimeters in the drop down, and then enter the new
Width and Height.
4. The bottom of the dialog contains other options you
can set. Experiment with these to find what works
best for your image.
5. Click OK to resize the image.
Resizing the Image Canvas 1. Choose Image > Canvas Size.
2. In the Canvas Size dialog’s New Dimensions section,
choose to resize by Pixels, Inches, or Centimeters.
3. *Optional: Click inside the Background color box to
specify background pixel color.
4. In the dialog’s Placement section, click the desired
direction in which to add to or subtract from the
canvas.
5. Click OK to resize the canvas.
Fixing a Photo in One Step 1. If it is not already displayed, display the Photo
toolbar by choosing View > Toolbars and then
choosing it from the list.
2. From the Photo toolbar’s Enhance Photo drop-down,
choose the script OneStepPhotoFix. The script’s
corrections will be automatically applied.
Removing Red-eye 1. Choose Adjust > Red-eye Removal, or choose this
command from the Photo toolbar.
2. In the Red-eye Removal dialog’s Method drop-down,
choose the Auto Human Eye option.
3. In the right side of the dialog, choose an accurate Hue
and Color for the eyes.
4. *Optional: If necessary, click the Zoom In button.
Position the eyes in the preview panels by clicking the
Navigate button or by dragging inside the Right
preview window.
5. In the Left (editing) panel, click the center of each
eye. A control box appears over each eye, and the
Right (preview) panel will reflect the current
correction settings. Adjust the sides of the box if
necessary.
6. Click OK to apply the correction.

Basic Image Editing – Part II
Straighten a Crooked Photo 1. Note where the photo’s true “horizon” should be.
2. From the Tools toolbar, select the Straighten tool.
3. Notice the guideline on the image. Adjust the guideline
along the axis you want to straighten. Drag the
guideline to move it. Adjust the guideline angle
by dragging its ends, or by entering a value in the Angle
numeric edit control in the Tool Options
palette.
4. Click Apply in the Tool Options palette, or double-click
inside the image. The image will rotate so that the
guideline becomes the new horizon.
Correcting Perspective Distortion 1. From the Tools toolbar, select the Perspective
Correction tool.
2. Notice the correction box on the image. Drag the
corners of the box over the perspective you want to
correct. For example, to straighten a seemingly tilted
building, drag the corners to the outline of a tilted side
on the building.
3. Click Apply in the Tool Options palette, or double-
click inside the image. The marked lines will
straighten to a rectangle.
Adding Borders 1. Choose Image > Add Borders. *Note: If your image
is not flattened to a single Background layer, the
program will prompt you to do this.
2. In the dialog’s Original Dimensions area, choose Pixels,
Inches, or Centimeters.
3. In the Size in Pixels area, enter the border amount in the
Top/Right/Bottom/Left fields. For symmetrical borders,
mark the Symmetric check box; leave it unmarked for
non-symmetrical borders.
4. Click inside the Color box and choose a border color.
5. Click OK to add the border.
Adding a Picture Frame 1. Choose Image > Picture Frame.
2. In the dialog’s Picture Frame drop-down, choose the
desired frame.
3. In the Orientation section, choose whether to have the
frame inside or outside the image. You can also flip,
mirror, or rotate the frame.
4. *Optional: If the frame has transparent areas (for
example, round or oval frames), use the Transparency
color section of the dialog.
5. Click OK to apply the frame.
Adding Text on a Separate Layer 1. Make sure the Layer palette is displayed.
2. From the Tools toolbar, select the Text tool.
3. In the Tool Options palette, choose Vector in the Create
As drop-down, and then choose a Font and Size.
4. In the Materials palette, set the color options. Standard
text most often has a solid color fill and no stroke.
5. On the image, click where you want to place the text.
6. In the Text Entry dialog, enter the text, and then click
Apply.
7. To move or modify the text, use the Object Selection
tool. You can also adjust the text layer's opacity via the
Layer palette.
Adding Text on a Path 1. If you don’t already have a vector path object in your
image, create one.
2. From the Tools toolbar, select the Text tool.
3. Set the Text Tool Options as desired.
4. Place the cursor over the object (notice how the cursor
icon changes to an angled “A” with a curve below it)
and then click.
5. In the Text Entry dialog, enter the text, and then click
Apply.
6. *Optional: To make just the curved text visible, in the
Layer palette, toggle off the visibility of the vector
object.
