Painted toys are built from MDF or fine-grained hardwoods for the smoothest finish. Finish is spray can Rustoleum or Krylon white primer and color glosses. Krylon brush-on Color Creations also works well. With both types of paint, apply 2 coats of primer sanding each coat with 220 sandpaper when dry. Apply 3 coats of color sanding with 400 sandpaper when dry. Apply final coat of Krylon Triple Thick Clear. All Krylon paints and finishes are non-toxic when dry.

2. Radius the edges of the two Part 4’s by sanding. Glue and clamp the two Part 4’s to to the Step 1 Assembly. Let the assembly dry. The 1-1/8” diameter handle hole for the handle Part 8 is drilled through after the Step 2 Assembly has dried.
1. Radius the edges of the two Part 1’s by sanding. Glue and clamp the two Part 1’s together. Let the assembly dry. The 1-1/8” diameter handle hole for Part 8 is drilled after Step 2 is completed.
3. Using the Plan View on pages 18-39 as a guide glue and clamp two Part 6’s to one Part 7. Let dry then glue and clamp the remaining Part 7 to the two Part 6’s aligned perfectly with the opposite Part 7. Let dry. Use the pre-drilled holes in the two part 7’s to drill into the two Part 6’s to a 2-1/2” depth from surface of Part 7’s.
Step 1 Assembly
4. Using the Plan View on pages 18-39 temporarily clamp the four legs in position on the Step 2 Assembly. Set Step 2 Assembly on the Step 3 Assembly and seat the leg bottoms perfectly in position on the Step 3 Assembly. Glue only the leg bottoms permanently in place while clamped to the Step 2 Assembly. Let dry completely. Step 2 Assembly is glued in place in Step 5.
8. Insert the Part 8 handle into the Step 7 Assembly and glue in position. The glue surfaces were left free of stain to insure a tight glue bond. The rocker shown was pre-stained before assembly. The finish is 3 coats semi-gloss polyurethane sanded with fine sandpaper between each coat with the final coat not sanded.
7. Using the Plan View on pages 18-39 glue and clamp the two Part 2’s in position on the Step 6 Assembly. Let Dry. Glue and clamp the seat Part 9 centered in position of the Step 6 Assembly.

6. Insert and glue into place the eight Part 11’s into the two Part 7’s of the Step 5 Assembly. The Part 11’s protrude 1/2” from outside edge of Part 7. Proceed to Step 7.
5. Remove the clamps from the Step 4 Assembly and glue the Step 2 Assembly in position. Let dry. Using the holes in the two Part 6’s drill eight 3” deep holes into the legs Parts 3 and 5. Insert and glue the eight Part 10’s into the Step 5 Assembly.
