3. What kind of media institution might distribute your

media product and why?

Page 2: Questions 3 4

The IPC have 3 main target audiences they aim at when publishing the magazines they do; Upmarket Women, Mass-market Women and Men. As my magazine is primarily aimed at men, IPC would make a suitable institution to publish my magazine. From

research I did in my coursework planning I found out that the IPC publish a magazine called ‘Loaded’ which is a gentlemen's magazine and has been running since 1994. A magazine that has been running for that long a continues to be successful must target

its audience of males effectively.

Two long running magazines distributed by the IPC targeted at

males.

In terms of music magazine distributing IPC are head of the ‘NME’ magazine which has been published since 1954 and continues today to be the most popular music magazine in the

country. Even though ‘NME’ is a different genre to my magazine it is relevant as its clear that the intended audience the magazine is aimed at is being reached. So when it comes to attracting the appropriate audience for my magazine they have the knowledge and tools

necessary to be successful. So with the mix of them having the knowledge of attracting the right audiences and with the mainly male people being interested in my magazine and that is

an area they are specific in creating magazines for, it could be an effective mix.

The main rival magazine distributor to my magazine would be Bauer who produce a wide range of magazine including ‘Kerrang’ and ‘Mojo’. But the main rival magazine produced

by Bauer would be ‘Q’ magazine. This magazine is in the similar genre to mine and covers the similar sorts of artists mine is based around. With Bauer producing consistently

successful magazines targeted at people of all different favourite music they will clearly be a competitor. With ‘Q’ being aimed at people of a similar age, social class and gender

again this just emphasises that they would be competitor.

Target Audience:Age: 18-25Social Class: C1-C2 (Weekly magazine where it would benefit the reader if they could afford the music in the magazine via download of singles and albums.)Gender: Predominantly maleEthnicity: Stereotypically black but urban music is becoming hugely popular within the white community also.Psychographic Profile: The magazine is aimed at someone who is a mainstreamer/follower and obviously a fan of the hip-hop and rap genre. Music should play a part in there day to day actions as they should be dedicated to the music. The genres of hip-hop & rap are mainstream as it dominates the charts in both the UK and the US with artists such as Kanye West, Jay Z, Drake and Dizzee Rascal leading the charts on a consistent basis when they produce new material. The reader of M.O.B. sole interest when buying the magazine should be for the music and they should be interested in seeing artists live whether it be at tours or festivals. They should be using social networking sites regularly to voice their opinion on current music in the urban genre.
