Aims and Purpose… The aim and purpose of the presentation is to present my

findings that I have collated from my questionnaire in a easy to understand way that will help me with my proposal.

The results in this presentation will help me to understand my target audience more and identify their wants and needs out of my music magazine.

By conducting this research I will be able to gain ideas and take on board opinions that will help improve my magazine and make it more appealing to my target audience.

Page 3: Questionnaire Results

Methods and Techniques of Research… For my research I chose to conduct a questionnaire as

well as a focus group.

I chose these two methods of research as they allow variety and balance in terms of gaining both qualitative and quantitative results.

By having this balance in my results I will be able to get a more accurate idea of what my target audience want and need out of my music magazine and be able to design a proposal based on these results that they will find appealing.

Audience Profiling… From my results I can see that the

majority of my audience are in part time employment indicating that they would have a small disposable income to spend on something like a music magazine. My results also tell me that my magazine would be most appealing to anyone aged between 15 and 21 as my results show the most people within this age range. In terms of gender it was mostly males who this magazine seemed most appealing to.

Audience Profiling… As seen in the chart to the

right, the majority of my target audience lives in Harlow – this tells me where best to advertising and sell my music magazine as it would make it convenient for the audience. When looking at the hobbies and interests of my audience music/ concerts, photography and socializing seem most popular among others and therefore in my magazine it would be best to have adverts targeting these topics to make sure all content in the magazine is relevant and appealing to my target audience.

Media Purchasing Habits… These graphs and charts tell me about my audiences spending habits when it comes to magazines. From the collated results I can see that most people are willing to spend between £2.00-£2.99 on a magazine normally so this can help give me an indication on how to price my magazine. The majority also said they only buy or read one or two magazines a month – this could be due to the cost of them and something I must take into consideration when pricing my magazine.

Media Purchasing Habits… From these graphs I can see that the majority of my audience tend

to buy there magazines from a local newsagents – this gives me an idea of where I should be looking to sell my magazine and possible places to advertise it. The second pie chart here also tells me what my audience thinks about the release of magazines and how regular they think they should be. It is evident that my target audience like fortnightly magazines.

2 Title (x2), Images (x2)

Looking at this table you can see that the magazine with the dark colour schemes seemed more popular. Images for the 1st, 3rd and 5th cover were most liked so I think images like these would be appropriate for my magazine. Fonts seen on the 3rd magazine were most popular over all and the titles of the 2nd and 5th magazine were lie the most.

It is clear to see here that the red color schemes were most popular with the people questioned. However I am going to play around with the colours and perhaps make it so the entire magazine is dark with ‘flashes’ of colour or colour themes are particular pages.

My Magazine Idea… From these graphs regarding my

own music magazine, the people who answer my questionnaire though that they would most likely pay between £3.00-£3.99 for the magazine, therefore pricing it in this range would be a good idea. In terms of sub-genres that my audience think would be good to feature in the magazine, the most popular genres were industrial, gothic rock/metal, cyber Goth and then all the rest had about the same amount of votes too. I think focusing on the more predominately popular genres would be a good idea.

My Magazine Idea… When asked about features and

free gifts in the magazine, the most popular features were interviews with bands/artists, tour dates for gigs and festivals and new CD reviews – these are what I plan to include a lot of in my magazine as it is clearly what my audience wants. As far as the gifts go, all the gifts suggest were fairly popular and I think to retain interest and entice readers it might be nice to keep ‘mixing it up’ with the free gifts – if not though, the free CD was most popular and this would be nice or my readers too.

Focus Group Results… Here is what the six people in my focus group though about my

idea. I interview four females and 2 males.

“Great idea! Keep the magazine dark so it appeals to your audience. Also, maybe only focus on 3-4 main sub-genres as opposed to all the ones you listed.” “I think you should include a page where fans get to write into the

featured band/artist and get their questions answered.”

“Unique idea – make sure the magazine I really dark in every aspect so you can target the right audience. It should appeal slightly more to older people i.e. not young ‘teens’.”

“I would definitely read this! Don’t just look at music though – think about including stuff like fashion too as it’s so unique – interviews with popular artists about this would be good too.”

“Definitely have a section for new and upcoming artists.”

“Get some really cool photography/images that will compliment the style of this magazine. I think neon colours against a black background would look fab too as it would link to the underground cyber club culture side of the magazine.
