Question: What do you understand by the term social realism?

Answers: ‘Real life films’, ‘Life as it is really lived’, ‘Real life situations’, ‘Real life social issues’, ‘A piece of media that is

true to life’.A high percentage of the answers have proven they know some

sort of understanding to the term ‘social realism’.

The results show my audience understand the genresocial realism and how it is true to life, therefore understand some of the codes and conventions.

This gives me assurance to go ahead with my film as they all have some awareness of the genre and what to expect.

Question: What do you already know about the genre social realism?

Answers: ‘It helps understand real life situations’, ‘It involves real life society and social issues’, ‘Real life

situations’, ‘I know that it represents life usually from certain classes’.

A great amount of my audience already know at least one thing about the genre social realism.

The results show that most of my audience understand the term by what they are already aware of within the

genre.This enables me to continue with my film as i’am aware of how much my audience know within the genre. My audience all have some sort of understanding to the

genre and get the idea of it. Thursday, 10 January 13

Question: How often do you watch social realism films?

Answers: ‘A lot’, ‘Not often, once every fortnight’, ‘Around once a month’, ‘All the time’, ‘Seldom’.

The results show a mixture of answers as some people watch them quite a lot whereas some only watch them once a month or not even that. It shows how keen my

audience are to actually watching the genre.

There is a mixed range between how often people watch social realism films.

This gives me the idea that some of my audience are not very interested to watch the genre so i need to investigate carefully the answers to question nine to why there is this lack of interest to watch the genre and how i can increase

understanding of actual life's’, ‘Yes as it shows stuff that can actually happen which is scary’, ‘Yes as some contain to little action’, ‘No because i can relate better to real life

situations (unlike hollywood films)’.My audience is split half and half whether anything puts them

off social realism.The results are divided, some people completely enjoy the genre whereas some people find specific things off

putting and dis-attracts them to the genre.

This enables me to look specifically at this question so i can pay attention to what puts them off the genre and

Answers: ‘Yes because it helps understand certain aspects of real life’, Probably, if its on TV and nothing else is

on’, Yes i think its a genre with a loyal audience who understand the talented film makers behind them’, ‘Yes i

will, because i can relate to some issues that are trying to be portrayed’.

The majority of my audience say they would watch a social realism in the future.

The results show that most of my audience would watch another social realism film in the future because they

feel they can relate to the genre as it helps them understand certain aspect of real life however there is a

This enables me to be able to focus on the small group of people that wouldn't bother to watch another social

realism film and i can find out why they wouldn't which i could try to improve in my film so that i can try to persuade them to watch them more in the future.
