4. How did you use new media technologies in the

construction, research, planning and evaluation

Research

The main use of media technologies in the research process of our project was the use of the Internet using YouTube. We used this website to look at several clips of different school based television shows to see what sort of features we could incorporate into ours.

By looking at the opening titles of these shows we identified common features that occur in them and gained ideas for our own work.

Research

We knew YouTube would be a reliable source for getting the clips we needed because it is used as a global tool for watching video’s and anyone can upload video’s to it.

When researching for magazine and DVD covers, we used Google Images to look at examples of other children’s TV programmes. This is because it gathers pictures from all over the Internet which gave a large variety of results.

Planning

We sent an email to students around school who would be interested in auditioning for a role in our children’s TV show.

After successful feedback we were in a position to hold a casting session where we chose the most suitable people for the roles.

We used our blog on www.blogger.com to post most of our research and planning. Looking at all our research and planning on the blog helped us to keep on track with our production.

Construction

We used the studio in college to shoot footage for the opening titles of the programme and take photographs for the print work, as well as different locations around college for the film including corridors, the field and classrooms.

We used a Panasonic HD camera for filming which gave us high quality footage and records straight to an SD card to make it easy to upload to computers for editing. For taking photo’s we used a Nikon SLR camera which had many features on such as changing the focus on the lens.

To edit the video footage we used Adobe Premier Pro, which is a program used to cut parts of footage out that you don’t need and arrange all the footage in order. We also used different effects in the program including shaping the hand when the names are being wrote on the whiteboard.

We also used Adobe Premier’s after effects to create the effect of the hand writing while each character is introduced and smiling.

This allowed us to blend the clips of the hand writing and the smiling character together and cut and crop to make the transition of movements look better and smoother.

For the print side of our product we used Adobe Photoshop to produce our magazine cover and DVD cover.

This programme has features that made our print work look very realistic and similar to existing media conventions.

Evaluation

For the evaluation of our product, we used the studio and the Panasonic HD camera to film people’s thoughts on our products.

This allowed us to get evidence of what people thought was good about our product and what they would change.

Evaluation

Another thing we did was use the social networking site Facebook for the evaluation of our work.

We uploaded our opening titles to the website and this allowed us to get a variety of consumer opinions.

We used Wallwisher.com to create a virtual wall about our video and this allowed people to post reviews and opinions about our coursework
