QUESTION TWO; How does your media product represent particular social groups? In our opening title sequence we make hints to three characters, two detective inspectors and the character that is being released, Vincent. We challenged the conventions of the thriller genre in relation to characters as we used a female protagonist as the main character in released. However we felt that this would work as It puts a different twist onto the genre, but also because sexism is reducing we felt that it was a good opportunity and a gap in the market to re-enforce this. We have portrayed our female detective inspector as a strong, clever and interesting character. She is a young and new to the job, which can be seen through her lack of smart attire, however this does undermine her skill. You are shown through the audio that she wants to release someone, which hints at her ulterior motive. She is shown to be wearing dark colours which fits with our thriller genre. One character I could compare DI Bruce to would be Beatrix Kiddo, a.k.a. The Bride who is the protagonist of the film kill bill. She abandons her life as a hired assassin for the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad. Although Kill Bill is a crime action film, the use of a female protagonist is similar here as its seen to be a typically masculine role with high power.

QUESTION TWO;

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

One of the other characters that we showed in the open title sequence of our film was Vincent the antagonist. He was only shown through his eyes as we wanted mystery to be kept. The character of Vincent is in a mental asylum for having schizophrenia. Throughout the film he is shown to be wearing natural colours with not a high usage of props and Mise-on-scene as we didn’t want to distract away from the character and his thoughts being the main focus as it’s a psychological thriller.

The two characters are very different, DI Bruce is shown to be a strong and confident characters when as Vincent is nervous and confused. This is represented in our opening title sequence when DI Bruce is walking down the corridor with a strong a tall posture, and when Vincent’s eyes are on the screen they are fast moving and looking around to show his unsettlement.
