In the production of our music video we have been inspired by Andrew Goodwin’s theory as we don’t follow a traditional narrative structure. In our music video the singer has both roles, the narrator and the character.A very strong aspect that we have taken from Goodwin’s theory is that the artist tries to involve the viewer with the performance by looking directly at the camera.

Majority of the shots shows the artist looking directly at the camera involving the viewer with her performance

Page 2: Question One

The structure of our video is reflected on the length as it builds a climax before the video ends

Page 3: Question One

I have taken these shots in order from our music video;

our video starts with an introduction of the artist

followed by some lights and traffic. This gives an insight of the genre as we can tell

that the setting will be urban

The starting setting is relatively dark and it is at

night time…

Page 4: Question One

…then it slowly builds up to a brighter atmosphere that builds up a colour scheme

Page 5: Question One

We also link the start with the end of the video, as Goodwin’s theory explains, in our music video we have repetitive shots before the video fades away

Page 6: Question One

Goodwin’s theory explains the relationship between the song, the genre and the illustration through

amplification, disjuncture and illustration.

We have mainly focused on Amplification as we try to add more layers of meaning to the lyrics by

giving a wider image of our song by starting the video in a dark

atmosphere which is surrounded by city and urban aspects

Page 7: Question One

We can also say that we have been inspires by Vernallis’ theory of music videos as we can also relate our video to Disjuncture because there isn’t a major connection between the

lyrics of the song and the video The camera also moves in time with the beat of the music which is what Vernallis stated,

we also use jump cuts regularly We have also used an editing technique which is obvious. This was a jumpy effect that was

used after the traffic lights shot as the camera moves away and moves from side to side to introduce a new setting where the artist is wearing different clothing, this is

effective as it draws attention to the audience

Page 8: Question One

We have mainly been influenced by the following music videos

You Da One -Rihanna

Forgiveness –Wretch 32 Ft Etta Bond

We have applied the idea of using some

square shapes behind the artist in some

shots

We have used a shot of the artist

emphasizing her lips

We have use da side shot of the artist so show her from the side while she is singing

We have applied some of the camera movement from this video as we also move along with the artist as she walks

and sings
