EVALUATION QUESTION #1

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Page 2: Question no 1

The genre of my film is romantic comedy, as mostly movies of this genre prosper in bollywood, which I have chosen as my institution. My media institution which is Eros international is mostly producing romantic comedies, some of them includes ye jawani hai dewani, cocktail, desi boyz, R…rajkumar, heyy baby…

Ye jawani hai dewani is one of the top grossed movie of Eros international i.e. more than US $48 million.

The basic plot of a romantic comedy is that two protagonists, usually a man and a woman, meet, part ways due to an argument or other obstacle, then ultimately reunite. Sometimes the two protagonists meet and become involved initially, then must confront challenges to their union. Sometimes the two protagonists are hesitant to become romantically involved because they believe that they do not like each other, because one of them already has a partner, or because of social pressures. The ending of a romantic comedy is meant to affirm the primary importance of the love relationship in its protagonists' lives, even if they physically separate in the end.

Page 4: Question no 1

My film ‘selfless’ shows a boy watching a match with his friend in a café, the dark lighting also shows the café environment. The dark environment confirms the genre and the mise-en-scene of the movie. The upper that he was wearing also helped the audience in identifying the team he supports as it showed the logo and the name of the team on the back. The wallpaper on his phone also showed him as being a die hard fan of the team.

In romantic comedies outfits are usually quite simple, for females they are usually girly and for male characters they are normally dressed quite simply.

Props used in the film include the protagonist with a jacket of the team he supports, sheesha in the front showing them of younger generation, his dark blue car also represented his age as guys usually prefer dark colored cars.

Mostly in romantic comedies characters clothes are casual, not specifying anything in particular.

In my film the protagonist is wearing an upper with a logo of a football team.

The other character (protagonist’s friend) is also wearing a black shirt connoting that he also supports the team that the protagonist is supporting.

The protagonist wearing a jacket, sitting at café, smoking sheesha clearly represents his youth and his attitude towards others in life that he cares about everyone as he was shown sitting in a café with his friend and when his girlfriend called he just rushed out leaving everything for her.

The girl at the restaurant also represents her as being young as she broke up with the protagonist because of him being late, and hooked up with another guy there at the restaurant.

Editing techniques used in romantic comedies is mostly normal paced as to show the energetic personalitites of the characters and similarly in my film the editing is also normal paced .

Fade to black and fade to screen which is mostly shown, is also followed as per the romantic comedies.

Page 9: Question no 1

The titles of the romantic comedies are mostly creatively written and are very much attractive, similarly my title is also creative.

Page 10: Question no 1

Mostly romantic comedies do not show breakup in the opening scenes which I have challenging the romantic comedy genre.

My movie does not show the protagonist’s love story rather it only shows their breakup,
