Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

Page 2: Question 7

When I did the college magazine for the preliminary task I didn’t have much knowledge in using most of the software’s like Photoshop and InDesign. My college magazine wasn’t very good as I had limited amount of knowledge about creating magazines and magazines in general. The images I used for my college magazine were a bad quality as they were taken on a mobile phone rather a professional camera, the images were blurry and the image I used on the front cover was stretched. I improved this for my music magazine, I used a DSLR camera which produced better quality images and my images were taken in a studio rather than a random location that I used for my college magazine

I didn’t really plan for my college magazine, this was my main problem as most things were improvised so for my music magazine I planned most things out like what model would suit best for my music magazine and the models costume, make up etc. Also I used more images in my music magazine than in my college magazine. My college magazine contents page had only one image however the contents page from my music magazine has four images of different models and one of those images is of an instrument. This created a better outcome.

My college magazine didn’t really have a colour scheme which looked unprofessional however I had a 3 colours scheme for my music magazine which made the magazine look professional and more exciting also more relevant as successful music magazines like Vibe used 3 colours scheme. Overall I learnt my skills in using software’s like Photoshop and InDesign have improved and I now feel confident in using them.

I followed the codes and conventions of Vibe magazine because Vibe magazine is a popular R&B magazine also I like the layout of the front cover, how the main focus is on the model.
